Hi all

Hi all

Hi all,

There are 5 conditions in the game, and 5 labels.

Each condition actually affects the actions associated to a specific label: :

Afraid <=> Danger (-2 to directly engage)

Hopeless <=> Freak (-2 to unleash powers)

Insecure <=> Savior (-2 to defend or reject influence)

Guilty <=> Superior (-2 to provoke or assess situation)

Angry <=> Mundane (-2 to comfort or support or pierce the mask)

Am I right in understanding that adult moves are not affected by conditions ?

If true, wouldn’t it be more intuitive for newcomers to put each opposing condition in front of the corresponding label in the playbooks ?

At the same time, the page about Adult Moves would state explicitly that they aren’t affected by conditions, and the information about Insecure affecting the reject influence move could be added directly in the move description ?

  1. That’s a really interesting question… It would make some sense, if you are doing the adult thing then maybe your emotions are less involved. On the other hand, it would also make it quite a bit harder to actually DO the adult thing.

  2. Conditions also don’t affect playbook moves, which is I imagine the reason each basic move is listed specifically instead of just binding the conditions to the labels.

  3. Mechanically? It would be pretty shit to suddenly be bad at everything that makes your character unique. Having some of the basic moves hampered is one thing, but to spend the rest of the game being garbage at the things you’re supposed to be good at is a pain.

  4. I imagine the narrative reason is similar. The playbook moves are core to your character’s identity, so they aren’t impacted as drastically by something as simple as a change in emotional state.

  5. Reject Influence isn’t governed by a label; it’s a straight roll, with a penalty for Insecure (if you squint at it, you could interpret it as being roll +Insecure.)

  6. As some playbooks moves are stat swap on basic moves, they’re still impacted by Conditions. I’m currently streamlining rules for my table, and I will test the “you’re afraid, you’re at -2 on Dangerous” quickly. But I also upgraded boosts that can be added with Influence and Team pool to +2
