I’m working on a mission to run at a buddy’s event in South Dakota. The gist is that a corp middle-manager is hiring the team to steal and destroy some video footage from his own employer’s datacenter to prevent his ex-wife from using it against him in a custody hearing.
I’m trying to figure out the best way to bring the ex-wife in as a potential provider of a side-mission. Should I have her contacting the players be an entry on the Legwork countdown, or should I just have her contact a player as an Offer an Opportunity move?
I usually do the latter, but the former could work as well.
Attaching it to the legwork clock might be over-determining it. It kinda weds the idea to a particular place in the narrative, so that if you want to bring it in earlier or not at all (because the mission goes in a direction you didn’t expect) you might feel required to force it in.
By the same token, that might take the story in an interesting direction that you didn’t expect.
Thanks. I’ll keep it in my back pocket as an Opportunity. I imagine I could also bring her up if the team goes digging into their employer during the legwork phase.
Absolutely!
They might even initiate that contact in the hope of getting a bigger payday!
Yeah, that was my thought, too. Thanks! For some reason, wrapping my head around ‘mission’ and ‘PbtA’ has been difficult for me, and I don’t really know why. I must have gotten lazy in the last few years 😉
