Hey, gang! I want to have a big alien monster, a beast of sorts, you know. So I created this threat. Feel free to critique!
THREEK
A threek is a 4-meter-long, crocodilian creature that lives in swamps on some god-forsaken planet somewhere. It has nasty fangs, big claws, a thick hide, and an unpleasant temper. It has an unpleasant smell, too, which is bad news for anyone who gets close to it. Oh, and it’s hostile. Verrrrrry hostile.
In a fight, it counts as three threats: the fangs, the claws, and the smell. Anyone close enough to Launch an Assault is susceptible to all three.
AGENDA: Defend its territory, eat (mate)
MOVES:
– Swipe at them with claws
– Bite!
– Hurtle forward and knock them down
– Stink like a trash fire, a hamper, and a bucket of yeast
– Swing a heavy tail around
NOTES:
– These suckers cannot climb. Like, at all.
– They do, however, have a thick hide, which makes injuring one kinda difficult.
Thoughts?
I like it. I’d give it some custom moves, though, to help flesh out behaviors. Maybe like:
When you close the distance on a threek, the smell assaults you first. Roll Physique. On a 10+, you’re fine and can push past the foul eye-watering odor. On a 7-9, choose one:
– Your watering eyes nearly blind you
– You’re sick to your stomach and may vomit at any moment
When you Launch Assault against a threek, you always suffer harm, from the claws or fangs, no matter how much you succeed.
Yeah, Aaron Griffin’s custom move suggestions look pretty good.
Dude yes! I was thinking, Keep it simple, don’t create any moves if you don’t need to, but Aaron Griffin makes the case that…well…it’d be better if I did. Thanks, Aaron! I’ll update my threek based on your suggestions!
It’s cool because the moves are flavorful and you can almost replace purely descriptive text with moves and get the same vibe. I don’t have a good mental image of your threek to do it justice, though.
And that’s what I like about it — the moves are flavorful. Plus they’re easier to parse and adjudicate than just text, you know?
Trust me, you probably have the exact same mental image of the threek that I do, which isn’t much. Are you picturing a bigass crocodile monster that acts like the Tazmanian Devil? ‘Cause that’s kinda what I’m picturing.

While that’s a cool image, it’s not the one I had in mind — not a biped. So I’d better tighten up my description, huh?
