So one of the things I like to do for my Sprawl games to take something old and turn it into something new. This has happened several times to the Knights Templar in real life. Originally a “corp” that was used during the crusades to take holy sites and protect travellers, they became one of the largest, irchest, and most dangerous organisations in Europe, until declared heretical and outlawed. In modern times there is a criminal organization in Mexico that has taken up their name , the : Los Caballeros Templarios Guardia Michoacana or Knights Templar—Guard of Michoacán. Estenially the idea of Knights living up to a code have taken over a portion of mexico, adopted an ethical code, and warred with other drug cartels. Also they have been repurposed as the villain in the Assassin’s Creed games in a way that makes sense for a brotherhood that is mistrusted and shrouded in secrecy. Be it the imagery, or the conspiracy that keeps this idea of repurposing the past for the future, I have found artists that are in the same way inspired to show a futuristic vision of these ancient order.
