I had a rules question. Is anyone aware of if you already have drained what’s the protocol on a 7-9 on a gaze into the abyss roll? Can you choose drained again and faint or just be very drained or do you have to choose confusing and alarming by default.

I’m pretty sure the rules stipulate that you can get the same Condition more than once. It just extends the duration of the Condition.

I’ve always played that you can’t pick “drained” if you’re already drained (and similar for “Terrified” from hold steady, etc.). But I’m not sure there’s actually a rule.
In the monsterhearts rule book it does say something which I think more supports what Chris Stone-Bush said, but I wanted to check how others were interpreting it. It says “if a character already has a specific condition (like drained), they can’t gain that condition again. Instead they just remain drained.”
If you HAVE to get drained but you already are drained then there’s no impact. If you have the option of taking a condition other than that with which you are already burdened, take that.
As Cameron Worrall says, there’s no real impact if you take a Condition you already have. If the player has a choice of what Condition they get, I encourage them to take a different one.
