One of my players, a doomed, recently made a deal with her demonic nemesis. The deal will allow the demon to possess her for 24 minutes of the next week. I didn’t want to just control her character and I wanted to make things fair so I made this move.

When Abraxus possesses your form like a foolish meat puppet, remove a minute from the Posession Pool and Roll. After the roll the GM may spend minutes from the Possession Pool to add bonuses to your roll. +1 per minute up to a maximum of +4.

On a 10+

Mark your doomtrack and select one of the following:

-Receive a vision of a terrible event that lies in your future. Mark 2 conditions.

-Unleash an ally of Abraxus upon the world.

-select two from the 7-9 list.

On a 7-9

Mark your doomtrack and select one of the following:

-Lash out without regard for those you care about. Shift Danger up and Mundane down.

-Reveal a terrible truth about yourself. Shift Freak up and Mundane down.

-Extend Abraxus’ vision and reach. The GM will tell you how.

On a Miss

Abraxus revels in the sensation of physical form. Describe how your action breaks convention, breaks the rules, or places someone in an uncomfortable situation. You may then immediately activate one of your doomsigns at no cost.

I’m still pretty new to the game so any feedback on it is appreciated.

Also if anyone wants to post cool custom moves they’ve made for their own games I would love to see them.

  1. I feel like just waking up one morning and seeing the world is on fire/that boy you liked is afraid of you now and knows a terrible secret/something other horrible has happened would be more fun. Also seems more in line with how that story would go in a comic.

    Just my 2 cents.

  2. Looks to me like this will move the Doom Track pretty quickly. Is the arrival of the character’s Doom in Abraxus’s best interest? (For example, if Doom means Abraxus gets to eat the soul and take up residence in this meat suit full time) If not, consider toning down the consequences of a 10+ because getting to possess the character has to be great fun for Abraxus and if there are times when it doesn’t completely seem like a horrible stupid mistake, she might choose to make a dumb deal like this again.

  3. Great insight Grey Kitten. I actually kinda like making the player be complicit in what happens during the possession. Then Abraxus can, with justification, say, “It was all your fault. You chose this.”

  4. If I were Abraxus, I’d use the 24 minutes this week to do a bunch of innocuous seeming things that set everything up like arranging dominos. That way the PC can be the one to start the chain with Abraxus ready with another deal to take care of fixing things but this time for an hour a day.

  5. Grey Kitten Abraxus does benefit, but now that I think about it this will make the doomtrack shoot up. I think I’ll tie the doomtrack’s movement to specific choices to give the player greater control over it.

I do like the domino effect as well. That’s definitely something to think about. I’ll have to think of a result that pushes that future badness angle.

  6. It’s always fun to just say ‘I’m gonna possess you for 24 minutes sometime next week’, then trigger it at the worst possible moment, like in a middle of a fight, or when your loved one is being kidnapped-Abraxus makes you sit down and shut your eyes, so all you can do is hear them scream as they’re taken away while your body does nothing.
