Quick question.

Quick question.

Quick question. What is up with the immortal playbook? It is mentioned a couple times in the urban shadows book and amongst all the other basic archetypes on the magpie games urban shadows web page, but it isn’t in the book itself and there is no mention of why… it’s just not there.

  1. Ok. Out of curiosity when did that happen… because even the kickstarter campaign page just lists it as one of the basic playbooks and I have not found any other mention of it being backer only.

To be honest the Immortal as described in the listing of archetypes was one of the reasons I picked up Urban Shadows when I did. I don’t regret buying it, it looks to be a really cool spin on PbtA, its just frustrating that one of the reasons I was interested in it is not there and there seems to be no easily available information about why its not there.

  2. IIRC it was something from the playtests and ended up being shelved in favour of other playbooks with an indication it would be released after Dark Streets as a separate thing together with other playbooks.

  3. Just checked back through the Community and it was pushed into the Dark Streets book just before the print release together with a bunch of other stretch goal playbooks.

  4. Finally found it… The immortal being pulled for later is buried in the bottom of the August 30 kickstarter update. Understandable reason for pulling it… not the greatest way to communicate it especially for people coming to the game months later and seeing it listed as a basic archetype when it isn’t anymore. 🙂 oh well… back to digging through this excellent game.

  5. Checking the Dark Streets pdf on DTRPG it doesn’t list the Immortal as a playbook so there must be another supplement coming in the future containing that and possibly ohters.

  6. Yes, I’m looking forward to getting my hands on that one. If it’s any reflection of the Dark Streets Revenant (The Crow), it’ll be pulled pretty well from either Highlander or Dorian Gray, either of which makes me happy.

  7. Frustratingly enough, The Immortal was supposed to be in the core rulebook, but was pulled for “further playtesting…” and we still don’t have it. Supposedly it’s coming later this year, along with The Dragon and The Angel (the latter of which is somehow taking even longer than those two), but I’m losing hope.

Magpie has a bad habit of funding a ton of content with stretch goals in their Kickstarter campaigns, then ignoring that stretch goal content in favor of further Kickstarters. It happened to Urban Shadows, it’s happening to Masks, I’m sure it’ll happen to other games, too.
