My online group is chatting about what system to use for a Super Sentai/Power Rangers style game. Basically super hero teens that eventually fight with a combined, giant robot. I would prefer the system to be PBTA if at all possible but I’m not seeing anything that targets a the sentai/ranger setting directly on a quick search.

Does anyone know of an appropriate or ballpark hack?

  1. There was, once upon a time, a hack called… Hero World? Power World?? Something like that, and it was explicitly a Super Sentai hack.

Failing that, I would suggest using Masks. Use only the Beacon, the Delinquent, the Janus, the Protege, and consider the Bull and the Legacy, and if you have access use the Reformed. Get everyone to buy into focusing their ability choices on Sentai-stuff like kung fu, or maybe elemental stuff if you’re going that way.

In play, use Team to represent gymnastics and posing and combining weapons. Write a couple custom moves about mech fights.

  2. I would use Masks, perhaps with some limitations on playbooks depending on the specifics of the setting, and treat the Team moves as the mecha’s moves.

I’m pretty sure there’s also a game specifically for sentai, but I can’t remember what it was called. Gray Pawn, I think I heard about it from you, do you remember?
