  1. Just like every other match except there’s a ladder.

I played a game where we had a Texas ladder match. It was a triple threat with the ladder inside a steel cage. Once someone got the belt they had to then take the belt and climb over the cage.

It was intense, but we played it like any other match, just with special ladder and cage narrative.

  2. For cage/ladder/table/TLC/street fight/etc kinds of matches, if you want to reflect how the match is more physically dangerous, use the Hardcore/Violence stipulation, with the ladder (or other gimmick) counting as a weapon.

But yeah, generally, gimmick matches are more about giving you different tools to tell the story of the match, the “beats” of a match are still pretty similar. My general advice is to play one out using the normal rules or adding Hardcore/Violence, and then if you feel like that experience is lacking, build custom Moves for the next time.

    That said!

    – For something like Elimination Chamber, adapting the Regal Wrangle rule that adds “decide who comes into the chamber next” as a 7-9 option could be fun!

    – Oh man, War Games is tricky. I’d have to watch one again to see how well a custom Move would fit. It might just be a Move to see who wins the coin toss, and then adding the “who comes in next choice” result and using the Momentum rules from a Death Match to handle guys getting taken out.
