Hey everyone,
here with another question, how much liberty do you give players when creating a custom item? I have a player who is wanting to create a custom vehicle. He is willing to spend the 8 cred and hit the streets.
the specs:
frame: hover craft/car
design: military
profile: Power+2, Looks+1, Weakness+2; 2-Armour
Strength: Fast & stealthy (active camo against visual and electronic surveillance)
Look: Dangerous (Im taking this as the +armed tag)
Weakness: cramped & guzzler
along with this he would like it to posses:
noise suppression system
gyroscopic mount for weapons
auto cannon
and omni directional firing.
He paying for a custom vehicle but i feel like this vehicle is a bit much with a lot of potential for fictional positioning but im not sure how to deal with it. someone please send your advice my way
Why not give it to them? The character is willing to pay a lot for it, and they’re still Hitting the Streets to get it.
Sure, it’s powerful. But it’s one more thing that can break, be destroyed, and needs upkeep. Plus, not every mission can be solved with an armored car. 😉
So that’s a starting Driver vehicle with a few extra do-dads? Lots of potential for fictional positioning for the player, but also a lot for you: cramped means it might not fit the whole team, or if it does, it probably doesn’t fit anyone else. Could be a cool mission in there where the team has to escort another vehicle because the “cargo” won’t fit in this one. Guzzler gives you opportunity for the old “run out of gas in the bad part of down” move. Also, I bet this will get targeted by the cops a lot, which could lead to some interesting social scenes.
That’s not to say you should let the player have it then rain on their parade with downside after downside, just to say that it gives you options too. It looks like the player wants a badass military vehicle. Plenty of potential for action scenes there, so I’d be into it.
Would you say its okay to allow custom bullets and gear as well?
I really appreciate the insight and feedback
Depends what they do, I guess. As a general rule, if it’s tags for fictional positioning, it should be okay.
Ultimately it comes down to what everyone in the table is comfortable with. That includes you and the other players.
