Looking to start a new Sprawl game (it’s been a while since last time), and looking to check something – by the book, do you normally create any contacts during character creation, or do you only create them in-play by “declaring a contact”?

I had the vague idea that characters would have one contact up-front, but can’t find anything in the book to support that (possibly I’m thinking of something from the Kickstarter drafts)…

  1. Just create contacts during play using the move.

The background section of chargen asks you to think about the kind of contacts you might have, but that’s all. There may well have been something more in a previous draft about creating some at the start, but it’s definitely not in the finished version.

  2. Fair enough… I guess I was either thinking of one of the drafts (or maybe getting it mixed up with another game). Certainly, “think about the kind of contacts” was the only thing I could fine in the book.

Of course, that’s the one downside to giving the backers as much visibility on development as you did… a consequence of all those draft revisions is that I tend to “remember” rules which don’t actually exist in the final book. I guess you must have the same problem some times?
