I have a player who is wanting some sort of stealth shield technology. I can definitely introduce something like that in the story itself, but I am actually surprised that Uncharted Worlds doesn’t have high-tech ‘invisibility cloaks’ for player characters. Most I seem to have found are the stealthy tag for attire (which he has) and the camouflage feature of a bio or cyber mod. Both of those seem to be fairly similar.

Camouflage: Blend into your surroundings, especially when not moving

Stealthy: Muffled, blends into environments, difficult to pick up on sensors

What happens if both are taken at once? Are they just VERY good at blending into surroundings.

My player is an augmented super soldier grown out of a tube. He’s mentioned wanting to go ‘into stealth mode’. I’m definitely picturing stealth shield generator technology such as in star wars.

How have these tags been used and treated during your UW games?

How would you introduce stealth shield technology?

Thoughts?

  1. Is it possible you could just do this as fictional positioning? If he thinks he can “go into stealth mode” perhaps he’s just Defying Danger with… I dunno Expertise?

  2. The invisibility field thing was one I went back and forth about a lot. It’s basically Stealthy++. I admit that part of my decision to not overtly support it is that in every rpg I’ve played, absolute invisibility (without “tells”) is a nightmare for the rules, the GM and the narrative.

That said: a “Predator-like” invisibility can be introduced by combining either a Stealth suit or Camouflage mod with the “Stealth” skill from Clandestine. Basically you go from Visible -> Transparent/Blended -> No longer in the scene -> Appear later.

  3. Great! thanks for the responses. Helps alot. I definitely agree that having flawless stealth would indeed be hard to deal with, but at the least a shimmering in the air might be a good tell for such abilities.
