Gonna run my first game of WiP next week, and re-reading the rules, I’m really disliking the Critical Condition rules of stackable -1 penalties. My thought is to either get rid of the penalty (in comics being beaten up may close a scene but it doesnt seem to stop superheroes from achieving what they need to (e.g Death of Superman at the hands of Doomsday) or to cap it at a flat -1 rather than stacking each critical condition. Has anyone else done something similar?

My advice would be to keep the penalties the same but encourage the burning of bonds to accomplish those “Hail Mary” kinds of successes.
My other thought is allowing Bonds to be burnt AFTER you roll.
I discard all conditions penalties. You do have fictional limitations for being frozen o bleeding in abundance, and critical conditions impose harsher and wider limitations, but I do not use mechanical penalties.
Talking about burning bonds, I also let them burn the bond after seeing dice results.
These are just my house rules. I don’t like failures snowballing, I find it anticlimatic for a superhero game.
Another option is, since it’s your call the severity of the states suffered by a PC, limit those critic states to meaningful scenes.
