I’m going to be running my first campaign of Apocalypse World: Fallen Empires this weekend. Any caveats or items of note from the peanut gallery?

I envy you.
In a “the first time is always special” way, or in the “goddammit I wish I were gaming” way?
of note: the “deadly” range on weapons seems cool on paper, but in practice it felt more like a GM gotcha “oh haha, you’re in close and you’re not using the weapon at your hip that is deadly at that range, you using another weapon that’s deadly at a different range!”
Also, combining mounts and gangs is brutal.
Aaron Griffin Dude, this note about “deadly” alone was worth the post. I’ll make sure not to do the switcheroo, but I will keep in mind that deadly weapons are a “double-edged sword”. nyuk-nyuk. e.g. playing with poison.
Yeah, it felt problematic. I’d almost prefer if each character just chose the range they were most deadly at, and all weapons used at that range were deadly.
Awesome! I’ve MC’d a little and played all of one session, but here’s what I learnt.
The battlebabe can start with a magic spell. Feel free to make as much of it as you like. Asking how they got it is always good.
The bonepicker’s devotions should be a thing, not just a supply problem – make them a relationship.
Take the time to establish how fantasy you want it to be with your group. Someone might think first season GoT, someone else might think Wizard’s First Rule or “like Forgotten Realms, but gritty.” Figure that out up front. Good luck!
Toby Sennett I think with this crew we’re comfortable straddling the line between Lord of the Rings and D&D fare. High fantasy with a good dose of “I just made that up”. Maybe Discworld level of crazy.

We sure are. Thanks, Vincent Baker.
P.S. Vincent Baker, I hope you know we use the phrase “Bakerian game design” at our game design retreats. You’re immortalized in your tiny niche.
