Well heck. I didn’t even know this community existed.

Last weekend I had a peak RPG experience running The Watch at Big Bad Con. Great players. Here’s my very long AP Report (the end is worth it):

  1. This game was such an amazing game. I had the honor of playing Paele and it was my first time asking for the leader role at a con game (but not my last now that I’ve done it). I usually try to sit back and play off other characters.

Bryanna was a wonderful GM. She did a great job asking the hard questions and letting the mechanics drive the narrative. She pushed us to really explore different aspects of our characters and it was such an inspirational play. I felt like everyone had really great moments and there was such a complex relationship among us that it was super evocative!

Everyone I spoke with about the game responded to the duration with a variation of “Really, eight hours??”.

My response was usually something like “Yeah, and I kept looking at the time hoping it wasn’t as late as it seemed and I could have played for another 4 hours!” I haven’t played a session that went 8 hours in a home game for 20 or more years.

Now I’ve told my players the we’re taking a break from our current game when this comes out and I am running this within a month of release! I’ve already started planning. 😀

Thank you Bryanna, and the game developers and play-testers for enabling me to have this experience. 😀

    Fist held high

  2. It was an absolute honor and pleasure being part of this table. All the players really brought it and I felt like everyone contributed to such a great cohesive story.

Jerry Ozbun you played such a great leader, Paele (Wolf). You were just oozing with the stress that the position entailed. You drove the story forward in many great ways. Great leader of the pack.

It was really cool seeing Anthony (Owl) start as the scout, but progress and become on par with our leader in rank, and the push back around orders that were forced and the consequences they had.

Tor as Meeasho (Eagle) just evoked such a bad-ass that didn’t give two shits, and the tension that continually brought into the scenes was dynamic.

It was great watching Alison as Pola (Bear) try to quell trouble and get caught rifling through people’s shit. I loved the resulting scene of Anthony and her playing out!

And I really enjoyed sitting opposite of Steve Moore as Parda (Spider) as I loved just watching him stir the pot and prod others into action.

Finally though, kudos to you Bryanna Hitchcock because you took on a crazy huge task. I thought I was just signing up for a long session of The Watch… maybe a few missions. I didn’t realize we’d be playing an entire fucking campaign, and am blown away with how seamlessly you appeared to pull that off. I was expecting good things from this game, but it really blew me away as far as how well it was executed.

  3. I have to add, when I ran this as a three-session longcon at Dreamation with the inimitable Aaron Friesen co-GMing, we only ran phase 2 of the campaign and did some handwaving to finagle the final confrontation at the end of it. So I’m pretty impressed to hear you squeezed in all three campaign phases and made it work!

  4. Agree 110% with everything Tomer said. I just have a terrible memory for names and didn’t want to embarrass myself getting people wrong XD

Everyone was amazing and I am so grateful for everyone we had at the table! 😀

  5. That’s an incredible write-up, and these are really awesome comments. I have so much to say about this game—both as written and as played at our table—100% positive, and will put them down as soon as I can.

But, maybe briefly, this was just a really incredible experience to play this game on so many levels, and I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to have been able to do so with all of you!
