  1. Magical Fury is a minimalist PbtA game where everyone is a magical girl with the same set of moves. What sets you apart is your theme and how you interact with the world.

  2. I’ve come across a Night’s Black Agents hack that uses the Gumshoe approach to chargen (as in ‘spread some dots among a skill list’). On the other hand, it might be a bit too off from typical PbtA standard.

  3. Vincent Baker ‘s pbta games, murderous ghosts, doomed traveller, and firebrands are great examples of how to stretch the design space of pbta past the core apocalypse world mechanics like playbooks.

  4. What us it you think ditching playbooks will buy you? What’s the goal? Personally the fact that so much of the game system and what’s cool about the character is right there in front if the player is one of the things I love about PBTA games.
