Dear All!

Dear All!

Dear All!

I’d like to ask you for help. You might remember me from September, I’m the guy who writes Europe-based ready-to-play MotW mysteries. The last one – “The Haunted Case of Eleonore Zugun” – was really fun to work with and now I’ve had time to finish another one, under the working title “Blood in Budapest”. It’s shorter than the Zugun mystery and I’ll publish it as pay-what-you-want PDF on DriveThruRPG in December.

I was wondering if some of you would like to read and comment on this text before I make final editing and layout. The mystery uses many experimental ideas – custom moves for every major character, a “bloodlust counter” move replacing countdown etc. – and I’d love to hear what do MotW fans think about them before fixing them in the final version.

If you want to help, please read the link to the google doc with the mystery. It’s open for viewing and comments. Of course everybody who helps me in any way will find him/herself in the thanks and acknowledgements section of the published adventure : ) Have a nice reading!

  1. I haven’t checked out your other mystery yet but I gave this one a read. I like the bloodlust points. It’s still a cool mechanic to build up and wreak havoc. Is there a point where the vampires die, though? Or something? If Lajos and Erzsebet’s curse is supposed to protect humans were they just shortsighted about the repercussions or would their plan (eventually) really work and rid the city of the vampire infestation? The move I’m most curious about is for Buda. I would want more information and clarification on taking memories from the Hunters – is this related to the forced honesty or something else? Taking gear makes sense to me but I would want an example or two on what taking memories would do and how it would affect the hunters. Does it have anything to do with the situation? Is it taking memories of what they’ve already learned? Hope this helps.

  2. Sam W Yes, this helps, thanks a lot! As for their plan, I see them as totally uncaring for repercussions – they wanted an ugly painful death for their kin, not safety for humans. The vampires would die in something like two weeks, probably far too long to be important given how many things can happen to them in the meantime. But I’ll write it more clearly.

And as for the Wards of Buda – to be honest I just thought losing memories would be interesting and creepy 🙂 I’ll think again if this move is really necessary and if so I’ll give some examples.

    Thanks again!

  3. Marek Golonka I really like the idea of the move for Buda – you’re right, it’s really cool and could be creepy! But I wouldn’t know what to do with it. I think a little bit of focus on the memory part of that move could help a lot.

  4. Sam W I finally decided that it won’t be a move of the city itself but a part of Wards of Buda move, like this:

When you try to find a way on Buda castle hill or in Buda castle dungeon, roll +Sharp. On 10+ you find it, no problem. On 7-9 you find it but lose someone or something along the way. If the Keeper wishes so this “something” might be a single memory – the Keeper holds 1 and can spend it to give you -1 forward because you forgot an important detail.

I know it’s still brief but it makes the memory loss thing a bit more definied.
