I’m going to do a Convention style one shot game for some of my friends to see if anybody is interested in doing a campaign, is there a convention style one shot with pre-made characters to download somewhere? (I played a one shot at gen-con and the character sheets had some options to pick, including some ship upgrades which I thought was awesome). Just wanted to check before I start creating everything from scratch.

Thanks in advance for the help!

  1. I usually run for six, so I had to come up with some different pregens than what are on the Uncharged Worlds website. I think there are only four there.

What I did was pre-combine some careers and a background and set it up to let the players choose which skills and stats they have. There are also some premade factions on there.

You’re welcome to use them: drive.google.com – Pregens – Google Drive

  2. You CAN do full character generation in a one shot, but you need to ride herd on the players to make sure they get the characters done in a reasonable amount of time to give you some solid playtime.

The first time I ran UW as a one shot it was bad… I had one player who was notoriously incapable of making decisions, so I had to constantly prod him so we could actually get some time to play. After that, I started coming up with ways to shorten the process. Depending on who I’m going to be playing with and what our time limit is, I go in with the premades I put together or I attempt full character creation.

For cons, I always skip faction creation and just give them the ones I put together ahead of time.

  3. Oh! One aspect I always make the players decide BEFORE they start working on their characters is what type of crew are they: ne’er-do-wells going from job to job, operatives working for an organization being sent on specific missions, explorers looking to expand their home group’s horizons, etc.

  4. The Far Beyond Humanity when you buy it on DriveThroughRPG comes with pre-gens as well.

One jump point is described in one of the last chapters of the main rulebook, if you want to use a different jump point to better tell the story your players want to have, there is a great supplement I can advice with both hands “21 jump points”.
