I have a simple and probably stupid question: is there one Homeland, or one Homeland per family? I’m confused by the wording in the play advice section of the first chapter.

If there’s only one Homeland, the pioneers are literally able to fuck over everyone else’s landscape… Which seems weird.

  1. It’s just the one Homeland. The Pioneer’s choice is pretty impactful, for sure, but the same goes for the Stranded Starfarers and the Cultivators of New Flesh. Not to mention, they don’t get to say anything about the history or culture of the world, so they’re imbalanced in other ways.

  2. Whether the ecosystem is one humans are adapted to is a huge deal, especially for the cultivators. In an alien ecosystem, you won’t have the enzymes to eat anything that grows there, you’re likely to be allergic to much of it, you immune system may not work against its pathogens, etc. Also, it terms of the homeland’s backstory, it being alien vs it being terraformed (or Earth) makes a big difference, IMO.

  3. Thank you. I made the Cultivators as a GM as an NPC faction & chose “the ecosystem had to change in strange and unexpected ways…”

Your response gives me some new ideas for them & for Threats.

We had our first full session last night. I’m actually agnostic on whether we’re on Earth or not for our game. Hoping to keep it that way. 🙂
