Custom move for drone override.
I was reading through the book and didn’t see anything that addressed this particular issue. Let me know what you think.

When you attempt to take control of a drone with your neural interface + RCM:
On a 7+, You override the system and gain control of the drone.
On a 7-9, you need to concentrate to maintain the connection. -1 ongoing to actions not involving the drone and choose 1 from the list below.
You make too much noise. Advance the relevant Mission Clock
Your hold over the drone is less than ideal. -1 to actions involving the drone.
Hamish Cameron ?
What stat does the player roll with here? Also, if the connection is tenuous on a 7-9, why would the -1 penalty apply to actions not involving the drone? I’d assume any penalty would be to actions with the drone.
My bad. Roll would be with synth. The tenuous connection would require the majority of your attention. So everything else you want to do suffers unless you terminate the connection
I figured it would be Synth, but wanted to make sure. Having a “tenuous connection” makes it sound to me like you’re going to get crap performance from the drone regardless. I would change that to something like “you have to concentrate to maintain the link” instead.
Chris Stone-Bush to me that seems analogous to my text. You get the -1 because you have to concentrate. Are you suggesting that the player should only be able to use the drone and nothing else?
No. What I’m saying is the phrase “your connection is tenuous” does not imply the chapter can/has to concentrate to maintain said connection. As you explained it though, the character having to concentrate on the drone is what’s inflicting that -1 ongoing to actions not involving the drone. I’m saying that unless you specifically state the character has to focus or concentrate, the reason for the penalty to non-drone related actions is not clear. I would word it like this: on a 7-9, you need to concentrate to maintain the connection. -1 ongoing to actions not involving the drone.”
Jack In shohld cover this move. Anyone can take it as an advance.
Jon Lemich Jack In does not cover more than logging into a secure system. Also there would be a difference between logging into the matrix and trying to overridea drone.
Chris Stone-Bush good point. From my point of view it makes sense but that’s because I know what I want it to do. I will alter the wording. Thank you
The drone contains a secure, password protected computer with a login gate and a control node.
Jon Lemich Yes, but the move doesn’t work well for that narrow circumstance.
Login (Synth) When you attempt to gain access to a system, roll Synth. 10+: you’re in clean 7-9: you’re in, but choose one: Ђ Passive trace (+1 trace) Ђ ICE is activated Ђ An alert is triggered (advance the active Mission Clock) Ђ Your access is restricted – take
1 ongoing to matrix moves in this system while your access is restricted 6: you’re in, but the MC chooses twoICE wouldn’t make sense thematically. The trace isn’t horrible, but not great. If you’re accessing a drone to have it do something quick none of that would matter
true. makes it easier. you could also use an act under pressure if you wanted it to be harder ordidnt have Jack in.
Jon Lemich that makes sense, I just think a custom move makes more sense.
In our game, nearly everything is wireless and hackable. We use Login to cover the Hacker gaining access to people’s smartphones. They don’t have ICE, so that option is simply not an available choice on a 7-9 result.
