Another question, figured I would make a separate post. Just a quick clarification on a line in the rulebook regarding a Hunter move:
Under the ‘Contacts’ section of chapter 6, a line says “You can declare a contact once per session, although Fixers and Hunters have additional moves that can introduce more contacts.”
My primary character is a Hunter and for the life of me I can’t figure out which of my Hunter moves can introduce a new contact. Is this referring to ‘On the Trail’ where he can spend 3 intel to find/corner a target?

I suspect that might be an error, perhaps a leftover from early drafts of the game. The Fixer does indeed have a move (I Know People) for declaring a new contact once per mission, thereby doubling their access to contacts. But as you note, the Hunter has nothing like that.
One observation – in the section on playing a Hunter, it includes a phrase to the effect of “he’s a barfly”, with the latter word bolded in the style that usually denotes the name of a move. So I’d guess “Barfly” might have been a move that allowed them to add extra contacts, but which was dropped before the final version of the game.

Hamish Cameron could have the answer.
Good spotting! That’s a legacy of the old obligation rules. (Declaring a contact used to create an Obligation that you would roll between missions to see if they needed anything from you. Barfly used to reduce the penalties for not fulfilling your obligations. That’s all now part of hit the street.)
Hamish Cameron That sounds like a neat feature. But I definitely see how it was preferable to roll that into the 4th option on the hit the streets move.
With that said, it surely would have helped make contacts feel like a more persistent part of the game. In its current iteration there is a heavy onus on myself to re-introduce them to the narrative outside of player visits for help.
More often than not I feel pressured to avoid Set-ups/Ambushes during ‘Get Paid’ just because the game is really winding down after 4 hours and my players are ready to finish. I suspect this feature would have carried a similar weight: introducing wacky little side jobs to be done before or after a proper mission.
With the current version of Hit-the-streets this kind of stuff will occur during the mission, which much more interesting and can often wind itself into the mission narrative. Plus MC agenda item number 2. =)
I think if you look around the Internet, you’ll be able to find the alpha PDF which has the original Obligation move. I’m at Neon Synthfest right now or I’d dig it up and post it.
Hamish Cameron Gahhhhh I wanted to go and try and play a Sprawl game with you but I just started a new job and couldn’t get off work =(
Hamish Cameron Cool I found it. The original move was called Network of Favours. “Once per mission you may declare and describe a new contact without incurring an obligation. Add the new contact to your list as normal.”
Jeff DeJohn bummer! Il’l be trying to hit more New England cons in the coming year, so there should be other chances!
