I always use environmental changes to force cooperation among lines. Have they tampered with ecosystems? Unleash a drought. A plague of vermin. Have they opened up a vault or discovered a sealed ruin? Make them vectors of an epidemic disease.
Or present them with fabulous wealth and resources… that will required them to massively upgrade their research and understanding of lost principles.
Have they opened up the map and conquered new lands? Organize the indigenous people in a fierce resistance and uncover the true extent of their domains.
