In the wizards sanctum downside it’s location is known by many I dont really understand what it’s saying like does that mean people know where it is and can go inside? or just know only it’s location but can’t go inside does everyone know where if is or just people the PC knows such as NPCs and other PCs thank you

  1. The tag is meant to be used to complicate things for the wizard. You can either decide who knows and why they know yourself, or ask the player, which will probably be even better. “Who knows about your sanctum and what do they want with it?” On the “positive” side, it could drum up business for the Wizard: “Silvertongue the Wizard has a sanctum. I bet they can summon your dead grandma to find out where she hid the Dark Tome of Ironic Fates”

  2. I assume it means only its location. But if they don’t take Magical Wards, or Magic Booby Traps as features, getting inside isn’t going to be too hard once people know its location. And even then, somebody powerful enough can probably handle those too.

  3. Anything in Urban Shadows that’s designed to be a “Trouble,” like the downsides of a Sanctum or Territory, should be a problem for the PCs. It’s supposed to structure your MC moves, so that you know what kinds of things to say when the PC rolls a miss or you need to introduce a complication.

In other words, the players are telling you where and when to hit them. When someone picks that their sanctum is “known by many,” they are agreeing in advance to you having people show up uninvited. 😀
