If I was going to use a single non-gendered word that meant the head of the family and household, what would it be?

  1. Elder?

House? (“They are my house, they shelter me from all the bad things… like decision-making…”)

Also, maybe just ride roughshod over gender conventions of the 21st (or 19th) century! These amount to cultural references to a culture long gone.

  2. Andrea Mognon go for it. There’s a song I know that goes “Mother…you are the core of the world” It’s also a nice play on Kore, the ancient grain goddess.

  3. These are all great suggestions and they have lots of interesting subtext that one could choose for any context in which one wanted to create this role. I couldn’t use all of them, and people should use them for their own projects (if the people who suggested them grant permission).
