If I was going to use a single non-gendered word that meant the head of the family and household, what would it be? I have no idea and your help would be much appreciated.

Householder
Familias
Breadwinner
Core
Ooooooh that’s good! I like that!
That is to say, I like the Householder one the most!
Yeah, I snuck the others in there rather than make a new post. Is this for a game, or just out of curiosity?
I’m not sure at the moment.
Elder?
House? (“They are my house, they shelter me from all the bad things… like decision-making…”)
Also, maybe just ride roughshod over gender conventions of the 21st (or 19th) century! These amount to cultural references to a culture long gone.
Do you mind if I use ‘the core’ ? It sounds good for my playbook about the mother…
Andrea Mognon go for it. There’s a song I know that goes “Mother…you are the core of the world” It’s also a nice play on Kore, the ancient grain goddess.
how about ‘glorious leader which all goodness from and whom we all swear undying loyalty.’ It really just flows off the tongue.
Heart?
Head
Chief
Boss
I like “boss”
“Sir” can be used in a gender-neutral fashion
and, after the apocalypse, imagine how C.E.O. might get twisted into another word for “boss”
Root
Wisdom
Shepherd
These are all great suggestions and they have lots of interesting subtext that one could choose for any context in which one wanted to create this role. I couldn’t use all of them, and people should use them for their own projects (if the people who suggested them grant permission).
Also “origin” especially if its an actual blood related faction.
And “alpha or omega” 🙂
