Hi, I’m creating a #poweredbytheapocalypse rpg. And I’m working in a special move that’s kind of like stealing or cheating on someone. My stats and rules are a little bit different, but for the sake of asking your opinions guys I’ll translate them to regular AW.
The basic idea is dividing the move rules, depending if the victim is a NPC or a PC. If it is an NPC the player making the move roll+sharp, but if the victim is a PC the same player roll+Hx, but not his Hx towards the victim, but the victims Hx towards him, and the results are inverted like in the Harm move. You if you roll high, it means the victim caught you. What do you think? I’m also considering having the victim player making the roll instead.
I would write two moves…
“When you try to trick an NPC, roll+sharp”
“When another PC tries to trick you, roll+Hx”
To ensure standardization of phrasing, high result = good, Hx meaning your Hx with them, etc…
the thing is this is a special character move, so it has to be listed within that character playbook
Oh sure!
In that case, two ways.
If you’re feeling clever, make it so that when the player chooses the move (the NPC-targetting move) it says “Every other player gets the move NAME.” and NAME is basically move #2 above, specific to your character.
Or just structure like this:
“When you try to trick another PC, have them roll+Hx (their Hx with you). On a 10+, good for them. On a 7-9, middle. On a miss, you get away with it.”. Kinda weird but it works.
Thanks! =)
Sounds good to me. And I like Alexander Davis’s wording of it.
