I have to say, I really like the Influence mechanic. In Monsterhearts, I struggled to have teachers and parents make a meaningful impact on the PCs. In Masks, the PCs can still flip off their mother, but the words may mechanically stick!

Monsterhearts never mentoned family or even gave a mechanic about family, even that being part of the mh problems. But here, family matters, in a positive and negative way
This is not to knock Monsterhearts; it is still one of my favorite games. I just had a hard time leveraging NPCs when I MC’d the game, and I understand why I have a hard time doing so.
But there are ways to give parents influence in Monsterhearts! Give them strings. One of the NPC string moves is “Make a hard move out of nowhere”. You can also give a condition [“Ungrateful”? “Spoiled?”] or offer an XP to do what the NPC wants. Plenty of carrot or stick.
