  1. I’m glad you got your book!

That said I’m quite disappointed with DTRPG’s print on demand, compared to Lulu. Lulu’s covers are super bright and saturated, and the ink inside is very nice and dark. I feel DTRPG’s printer cuts corners like crazy.

  2. I heard of some trouble with another DTRPG printing of “White Lies” (spy game based on old-school D&D-like rules with 5 character classes with levels).  The cover is supposed to be bright red but some got the book as brown.

  3. Sean, did you correct for CMYK? Lulu uses RGB printing, so what you get in print looks pretty much like what you see on your screen. But DriveThru’s printer Lightning Source, like most professional printers, uses the CMYK process instead. One frequent effect of that is ‘saddening’, making colours bluer and flatter. You have to alter the colour balance, and I’ve found I usually need two goes to get it right.

  4. Tim Gray Ah! Good to know. The world of printing is a (sorry) closed book to me, I didn’t know about the whole CMYK thing. I’ll look into it, maybe upload a color-corrected cover.

  5. Might want to consider another printer – flipping through the book the text describing the weapons (at the bottom of the pages) gets lighter and lighter the farther down the page it goes and ends up being pretty much illegible at the bottom. UW kicks ass and deserves a better printer 🙂

  6. I got my book order and the book cover also had faded colours compared to the .pdf.

p.7, web-page links marked with clickable blue links in the .pdf look like gray on the printed page.  That is not necessary, you should make them solid black like the rest of the text.  The rest of the print is quite readable.
