Hello everyone.
First off, my deepest congratulations to Sean Gomes for his tremendous work on the UW & FBH source books. I had been searching for a narrative-oriented system other than Fate for a Star Wars Campaign that I’d planned to run for a decade, and UW seems to fit perfectly.
After our first session, I would love to have the community’s feedback on how to manage the Dark Side or any kind of corruption. Apart from the narrative and maybe notes or special events that I could set up as a GM, I was wondering if had use any game mechanics that could help me to keep track of one of my PC’s light/dark tendencies.
Thank you in advance!
You could use Debt to The Dark Side… Once it is 4 or more, you’re driven by it.
Urban Shadows, another PbtA RPG, has a great corruption mechanic but it would require some work as taking corruption grants cool powerful corruption moves, which in turn often grant more corruption.
Making The Dark Side a faction is one way to do it, a la the skill ‘Pact’, and with sudden desires and impulses instead of dreams and prophecies. But I would suggest making The Dark Side a Horror:
Rising Tension would be paranoia, outbursts of anger, etc. And Horror Revealed would be The Dark Side acting through/taking control of a PC, making them do something they otherwise wouldn’t
Great ideas. I’ll cook something with the Dark Side as a faction, that’s probably the quickest/easiest way to deal with it, then I’ll just let the narration take over. Thank you lads!
