I have Angel who wants a workshop. I’m not quite sure if there’s a way to do that RAW. I know he can take moves from another archetype, but that only counts the advancement moves, not the starting moves. Any suggestions?

I have Angel who wants a workshop.
Where can i find the ángel playbook?
I’d do it up as a custom move, maybe?
Two suggestions. First is that advancements are both prescriptive and descriptive, so if your Angel does the work within the fiction to acquire a Workshop they can be treated as having one without spending an advance on it.
The second is that you could take an advance that relies on the workshop (e.g., Sanctum Sanctorum or True Artist), and include the workshop with the advance. I’ve done this with extras in other games and it works okay, but it’s a matter of taste as to whether it’s copacetic or not.
There’s an angel? Andrew Medeiros you has done me a deception!?!
Hmm so as a starting move? Two options: 1) replace a normal starting move of the angels with the workshop. 2) Give them the workshop but make it not fully theirs – someone else has claim on it, it is defective in someway, or it attracts trouble.
I’m confused and subbing.
Why not let him play a normal Veteran? He can simply decide, in fiction, that he is a “retired” angel that wants to live as human (or is tired of the War or whatever) Then he can play through advancements the return of his angelic powers or a total retire.
Mo Jave, it’s an extended playbook written by Jenn Martin. We sent it to all our backers a long time ago but PM me and I’ll resend it to you.
Andrew Medeiros any chances to get it if not a backer? 🙂
I buy the game .after the KS, some chance to get it? I need it to translate our MH game to US!
The Angel is a backer only perk for now. It belongs to Magpie Games so any future release of it is completely up to them.
There’s a US playbook written by Jenn Martin!?!? I’m a hundredfold worse than I thought for being kept in the dark!! The universe had done me a serious traitor! (And by the universe, I mean my boy who neglected to tell me. I will harass him and come back to you if we don’t have it Andrew Medeiros)
Hah, there is! I wrote the Angel for the Indie+ anthology and it may end up going in Dark Streets or somehow being released after that. I don’t really know the details, but I have a new-ish version. I think the Magpie folks are still playtesting it.
Ping me privately with your email and I will send it to you (I think it’s on one of the Urban Shadows updates?)
Jenn Martin I already strongarmed it out if Andrew Medeiros! Muhahaha, but niw I’m sad because we’re not in a US game to play it in right now!
(Will I see you and Lance Martin in September?)
Mo Jave I will be there but Lance Martin will not. He’s talking about maybe doing metatopia 2017, but neither of us will be at Dreamation 2017.
(Lance always jokes people like me better than him but the last few cons I’ve been to I’ve lost count of the number of times folks have asked me where he is and are sad he’s not there!)
Oh man i found the angel and dragon and immortal. I had forgotten all of these were finalized!
Jenn Martin yay about you! Sad trumpet about Lance. Tell him I suspect he might be worried that I’ll write a larp at him.
Mo Jave how did I forget about that until now?!? Hah- I will remind him!
simone biagini Because he’s been playing the Angel for several sessions now, and being an active Angel for the LORD is a major part of his character. He’s guarding a Jewish community, and wants to build a Golem, hence, workshop.
Andrew Medeiros And that’s why Kickstarter exclusives suck. Most of the time l simply wasn’t aware something was being Kickstarted to begin with!
Kevin Weiser he could ask a Rabbi to do it. Good time to use Power faction. 🙂
simone biagini Hahah, yeah THAT convo will go well. “What do you want to build?” “A golem.” “What for?” “To protect the community.” “… you HAVE read the story about how that plays out… haven’t you?”
I’ve no Idea on how Angel character works. US is about relations. If you cannot do something, someone else can for a debt. Maybe a Mage/Rabbi from another city? If not maybe he can “let it out” and “give life/put a soul” inside the doll (maybe he can ask an human artist to make it – mortality faction)
I was more speaking to the origins of the actual Golem. It’s a cautionary tale, it does not go well for the community or the creator of the golem. It’s like asking a priest to build a Tower Of Babel. We already know how that plays out, why are you trying again? When I talked to the player of the Angel about this, he said “My character thinks he knows better. In the story, the creator of the Golem was a mere mortal. I’m better than that. I can handle it.” Which is, in a word, perfect. Pride before the fall and all that.
But, no, I don’t see any Rabbi worth their salt agreeing to that, and neither does the player of the Angel. Instead, he’s come up with a nice list of required items to create a golem, and he’s going around using his debts and connections to acquire these pieces, and will also find a non-Jewish Wizard to do the final ritual necessary to create one.
