This is a great article about New Jack, a man who legitimately scares me.

The worst part about the ECW episodes on the Network are that they dubbed over Natural Born Killaz (that looped throughout his matches) with an even more annoying siren effect.

  1. New Jack was necessary for his time, to clear away the awful cartoonish characters in WWF and the top side of the WCW card (Hogan vs. Dungeon of Doom, yeez)…but man, I’m glad ECW is done and we’ve moved away from garbage wrestling. Maybe this man doesn’t mind literally taking brain damage for my entertainment, but I mind watching it. I cringe at all the unprotected headshots of the ECW/Attitude Era looking back knowing what we know about concussions today.

I’m glad the business has moved past the way-too-real violence of that era, as important in the development of modern pro wrestling it was. I think the addition of MMA-style moves helps to bring a kind of legitimacy of “realness” that the ultra-real violence brought without being something that guys (and gals) will have to live with in their broken minds and bodies for the rest of what seems to be all-too-short lives.
