I’ve got a question about Monster of the Week. How does it handle sandbox play. I know the game is set up to be played in various stages with the players finding the one thing that can defeat the monster. Does it fall apart if you don’t want to stick to this pattern?
So I’m thinking of introducing my players to AW, but I’m worried about all the moves.
So I’m thinking of introducing my players to AW, but I’m worried about all the moves. The only other powered by the Apocalypse game we’ve played was Dungeon World which has all its moves on 2 sides of paper. It looks like AW is going to need much more to cover all its moves. Are there any tips to help me and my group? I really want to run a game but I’m a little intimidated by it.

A little background: my first PbtA game was Dungeon World and I enjoy it greatly. Never used fronts though since in my decades of gaming these things have always flowed naturally and it felt unnecessary. So I wanted to see the game that started it all and picked up Apocalypse World 2nd edition. When I read the threat section I just didn’t get it. Needing charts to determine things that always came naturally during game play just seems way to convoluted to me. Am I missing something? Or is this for new gamemasters? Does anyone else feel this way or does having pie charts provide you with a helpful tool? Not being a hater here, just genuinely curious.

Curious as to what Sci fi apocalypse powered games are out there? I’m looking for something that includes cool playable alien species and lots of tech. Some examples of things this game could run would be Star Craft, Star Wars, 5th Element ect.
