Last night was our second Monster of the week game. I’m more than pleased with how it went. After some first aid from the theatre the players retreated to Dennies to leach wifi and do some research.

Through the research they found that the cult they were investigating at the old church. The creatures at the theatre and the abandined cars along the freeway were all happening near the burial places of the three fiunding fathers of the town.

They returned to the theatre and found a spot in the basement where some one had been digging. They dug and found the body of the first founder, they burned his bones an headed to the second site.

The site of the second founding father of the town was an old plantation house turned museum. They aproched the house at dusk. As they got there they noticed workers (just dark shapes in the sunset) in the field and figures standing in the windows holding lanterns.

The players were freaked out to find all the figures were skinless bodies going about work on the plantation like automatons. They slipped around them trying not to be too obvious.

As the players began digging in the grave site the skinless ones dropped their tools and began walking towards the players. Playing beat the clock two of the players dug quickly while the rest made a line ready to fight. With the tension getting thick the players torched the bones just as the first few blows were made.

Next games they plan to infiltrate the cult to get to the mausoleum to torch the bones of the last founder. Should be fun.

Most of last nights Monster of the week game was the characters riding around picking up clues and snooping.

Most of last nights Monster of the week game was the characters riding around picking up clues and snooping. When there was action it was very intense and really stood out as an ‘Oh crap’ moment.

Following the clues the players broke into an old boarded up theatre. Heading straight for the balcony they stepped out to look over the theatre. Below was an area cleared of seats with arcane looking markings on the floor as well as 8 figures. The figures suddenly snap their heads around looking up. Mouth full of fangs and faces full of rotting flesh. They suddenly sprint under the balcony at an alarming speed.

The players get a panic and start taking defensive positions with guns, swords, and knives drawn. As the figures burst into view they leap the steps slashing wildly with clawed hands.

I told the players with the guns they got to act first as they could shoot as soon as they were in view. But they would be using Cool to overcome the stress and fear to get their shot off. Those that failed 6, missed and were lept to and took claw damage. 7-9 hit their mark but their target still got to them to claw them. The two 10s blew their targets head off.

One of the 7-9 tripped falling on his back and got to see clawed hands coming over the balcony railing.

The players were generally freaked out and feeling stressed. After the first round fighting went back to using the kicking ass maneuver. I felt using cool worked realy well with the anxiety and stress of the anticipation of the coming attacks.

I just ran my first Monster of the week game. Scheduled for 3hrs. Went well into 5hrs.

We had a monstrous as a ghost of a witch hunter, spell slinger witch, Agent, spooky played as a changeling and a conspiracy nut. And it was FUN!!!

What got me was the background and connections between the characters.

The ghost player said he was killed by a witch he was hunting. The witch player said her and the witch hunter were rivals but became allies. The ghost said the reason they became allies is because he found out the witch was his descendant.

The ghost helped the Agent once and saved his life. The Agent said he was sent to keep an eye on the spooky, the spooky said it was the agent who helped her learn to control her powers. the spooky said it was the kook who saw her use her powers and it frightened him. The kook said seeing her display of power made him realize she was an outsider like him so he trusted her. the ghost was in love with the kook, but the kook said he hadn’t noticed. The agent and the witch had an on and off relationship.

We had this much story and we hadn’t even started playing yet.
