Hey friends!

Hey friends!

Hey friends!

Just a quick update on Wheel Tree Press goings on!

TIME CELLIST

Unless you are one of the handful of Kickstarter backers that got me their mailing info after our original shipment of Time Cellist books went out, everyone should have received their copy in the mail by now.  The second round of books are scheduled to arrive by January 25th in case you are one of those aforementioned handful.

We will be uploading the PDF and print copy of Time Cellist for sale on DriveThruCards.Com by the end of the month, in case you are one of those folks that missed out on the Kickstarter and want to get your hands on some time shenanigans of your own.  We thank everyone for being patient with us on this – we needed to get those books in the hands of our Kickstarter backers first.

For Kickstarter backers that are waiting on the rest of the backer rewards, Todd and I are gathering all the bits and bobs up right now and will be sending them out to you in the coming weeks.  Our goal is to have everything finished and out the door by the end of the month.

GREENLIGHT

Eric Ahlgren and I will be on hand next week at B-Fest, the 24 Hour B-Movie Film Festival, here in Chicago with Greenlight in effect!  Wheel Tree is an official sponsor of the festival this year and we will be giving away games and our first Greenlight booster, the B-Movie Blast pack.  The 20 card set includes titles pulled from the current and past set lists of B-Fest along with three new style cards that b-movie fans can use to tweak their core game to be a little more Grade-Z.  The booster will go on sale at Drive Thru Cards in February.

If you’re going to be at B-Fest, stop by and say hello!  Eric is better at staying awake all night then I am, but you can always throw some paper plates at me to wake me up.

OTHER STUFF

Todd and Tom are hard at work on getting SCUP finished for publication and I’m in the process of finalizing the draft of Sparkle, Baby! to hand over to Nathan Paoletta for layout and design magic.  One of these books is going to be pink and sparkly and look like a cupcake dress.  Political fantasy games have never looked so adorable.

Because we’re in the final stages of these projects, playtest copies and free downloads are no longer available.  We’ll keep you up to date with when these will be available for purchase, so keep your eyeballs open for updates!

Hey folks!

Hey folks!

Hey folks!

We’ve had several sightings of Time Cellist books out in the wild from US backers, so if you’re waiting to receive your book in the US, there is a high probability that it will be delivered before Christmas.  It’s a Time Cellist miracle!

While you’re waiting for your friendly postal employee to deliver your sweet, sweet RPG book, take a listen to the Gauntlet Podcast’s episode on their favorite game sessions of 2015.  Time Cellist gets a nice mention in the second half of the cast.  Thanks, Gauntlet friends!

What’s that?  Oh, it’s just a cat with a copy of Time Cellist.  No big deal.

Kickstarter backers with tiers that include a print copy of the book – they’ve been ordered from MagCloud and are in the process of being made and shipped directly to you.  Depending on where you happen to live, it should take 2-4 weeks to get to you in the mail.

Once we’ve got the print books in the hands of all the folks that got them as part of the Kickstarter, we’ll be adding it to our DriveThruRPG store for purchase as a PDF or print on demand.

Wheel Tree Press is an official sponsor of B-Fest, a 24 hour b-movie film festival here in Chicago.  The event will be at the Norris Student Center at Northwestern University on January 22nd and 23rd.  Eric Ahlgren and I will be on hand to hang out, watch some movies and give away Greenlight treats all fest long.  It’s an experience that is a delightful endurance test and slumber party all in one.

Tickets go on sale January 1st via the Norris Center Box Office.  For more info about B-Fest, visit their official site at http://www.b-fest.com

Hey guys!  Greenlight is finally up and ready for purchase at DriveThruCards.com!  Eric Ahlgren and I have spent the better part of a year and a half playtesting and putting it together for the masses to enjoy. Many thanks to Nathan Paoletta for help with the card design and layout and all of you out there that playtested for us at various conventions. It’s the perfect size for a Christmas stocking, Hannukah present, Kwanza reward …or Festivus challenge prize!

Hey folks!

Hey folks!

Hey folks!

Some quick Wheel Tree updates:

1.  Time Cellist Kickstarter backer people!

The PDF is finished and a backer only update was sent out yesterday to those folks that opted in for the electronic copy of the game.  The update included the link to download your PDF copy from, but if you didn’t get it and should of received the link or if you have the link and are having trouble with the download, drop me and note and we’ll get on it for you.

For those that have printed copies of the game heading their way, please check your email for our backer survey so we can get your books sent to the right places.

2.  Greenlight wanting people! We’ve submitted our request to get the game up and running on Drive Thru Cards and are waiting for their approval. It should only take a day or two for them to review the request, but with the holidays, this can sometimes be delayed.  Just as soon as we can get the PoD link out to folks that want a copy, we will.  I’m hoping this will be by the end of the week at the latest.

3.  Sparkle, Baby! wanting people! I’m in the process of doing another update to the game and once it’s pretty and laid out and has demented images of glitter pageants embedded in it, the current freebie download from the Wheel Tree website will disappear and it will then only be available as a PDF via DriveThruRPG for a modest amount of money.  So if you want to grab it while it’s free and imperfect and not covered in horrible stage parent imagery, get up on the download.

4.  PANE wanting playtest people!  I have a playtest document if you’d like to give it a try.  This is my morbid little game about the last second of a person’s life.  It involves cutting up paper and telling the story of a person that only exists for the hour or two of gameplay.  It’s actually kind of uplifting in a weird way, at least, I think so.  Anyhoo, if you want to give it a try, please email me at megan@wheeltreepress.com and I’ll get it out to you.

ALL THE UPDATES HAVE BEEN GIVEN

I hope everyone had a lovely Janksgiving.

Our Greenlight proof finally arrived from Drive Thru Cards and it looks great!

Our Greenlight proof finally arrived from Drive Thru Cards and it looks great! Super excited to finally have an actual finished game in front of me. Eric Ahlgren and I need to tweak all the things in the DTC storefront and make sure stuff connects up to the Wheel Tree Press site, but we will definitely have this available for folks to snatch up by next week.

In the meantime, gimme your best Exorcist Christmas Special pitch. It better have both zazz and sizzle plus some major star power, or we’re gonna go with the Hellraiser Hannukah Hour.

So I just ordered our print proof of Greenlight from DriveThruCards.

Hey Wheel Tree folks!

Hey Wheel Tree folks!

Hey Wheel Tree folks!

I posted something, and then G+ somehow deleted it because it hates me.

Anyhoo:  ValorCon is this weekend!  Come join me for some games and such!  I will be running a demo of my new game PANE on Sunday at 11am and Eric and I will be directly following that with a demo of Greenlight at noon.

Speaking of that stuff – I will have a playtest version of PANE available for interested parties by the end of the month.  If you’d like to be a playtester, just message me below or send an email over to wheeltreepress@gmail.com and I’ll get you a copy as soon as I make any adjustments post-ValorCon.

Also, we’re trucking away with the alpha version of Greenlight.  Graphic design has been finalized and Nathan is now working on the layout of both decks right now.  Eric and I are super happy with how things look and can’t wait to share the final product with you guys.

Hope to see some of you at ValorCon!

Hey Wheel Tree folks!

Hey Wheel Tree folks!

Hey Wheel Tree folks!

As I have mentioned other places on the Googles and on the Jank Cast, this community is the only place I’m going to be discussing my game designs that are in progress from now on. With that, I’ve also promised to be better at communicating what’s going on and where/how you can playtest them or otherwise check ’em out. So here’s the Wheel Tree round-up, for those that are interested:

Thing the first: as our Kickstarter backers already know via a recent update, Todd Nicholas and I had an interesting summer filled with cross-country moves, new careers starting and also some unfortunate health problems that needed dealing with. It delayed us a bit with our timetable for getting Time Cellist finished and out the door, but we are fully back on track. The finish line for the activity book is in sight and we’re also putting together the backer rewards for the higher tiers. We just finished up work on the custom cootie catcher for the TIME ANOMALY tier this afternoon, in fact.

Thing the second: Eric Ahlgren and I have moved forward with Greenlight and are currently working with Nathan Paoletta to create an alpha version of the game, which we will be making available for purchase as a print on demand card game via Drive Thru Cards. We’ve finalized the base game Property and Style decks; right now we’re working with Nathan on the design of the card backs and layout of the rules and card text. Our plan is to get the alpha version out there for people to play and enjoy (we are looking at you, David Miessler-Kubanek, and your Corridor Games on Demand peoples) and once we’ve found the right illustrator, we’ll do a beta version of the game that has fancier artwork and packaging.

Thing the third: I have a new game, currently under the working title “Pane”, that I will be making a more concentrated effort to be playtesting at conventions and game days in the coming months. The game takes place in the last second of a person’s life; players create a lifetime of memories by fusing and fracturing a metaphorical pane of glass which transforms from a blank slate into a unique mosiac. Sounds morbid, right? My experience in running it so far has actually been the opposite – the players become invested in the person they’ve created whole cloth, and it’s been kind of a cool celebration of life. I’m going to run a demo of this at ValorCon here in Chicago on Sunday, October 18th at 11am in their demo room of Block 37. We’ll also be doing a demo of Greenlight right after, so you can play ALL THE WHEEL TREE GAMES.

Thing the fourth: One of the cool opportunities we’ve been presented with via our globe trotting Squirrel, Scott Underwood, is the possibility of working with the Chinese based game group, Creative Tree, in bringing some games created by Chinese designers here to the States. Scott brought over an early playtest version of a card game based on the Chinese folk hero, Judge Bao, this summer for us to try. We’re looking forward to seeing how this game will continue to develop. Scott’s back in Chicago in a few months and we can’t wait to see what other goodies he brings from our friends at Creative Tree.

I don’t have a SCUPdate for you guys, but I’m sure Todd and Tom will chime in if there’s any news on that front.

Anyhoo, that’s where all our nuts are currently going. I have a few LARP projects on the back burner as well, including an update to my demented little hate monster, Sparkle Baby!, but nothing to report right now.

Your Squirrely Friend,

Megan
