I never played the basic game system, so I have no idea how to read the manuals, they basically don’t make sense to me.

So, where can I find the information needed to get me up to speed?

While reading the documents a few times over to prepare for the one-shot today I noticed that the Transformed is still called the Inhuman on the GM sheet in the “When our team first came together” Questions.

So digging the “risky” playbooks.

So digging the “risky” playbooks. Love the Nova, adore the Doomed. I think that it would be a little bit more thematic if the “Cure your Doom” Advancement were “Get a fiction chance to face and overcome your Doom”, that way it takes more than just marking 30 potential.

A thought occurs to me, Magpie Games

A thought occurs to me, Magpie Games . Please read this whole thing knowing that I’m a fan of your work, and love that you want all people to be represented. In the Look section, perhaps you could just leave the top two fields (the ones with gender and ethnicity) blank. This would let people write in what they want.

I first had this thought when I saw the Indigenous label and asked Indigenous to where? My wife is First Nations/Native Alaskan, which is much different than the Chippewa on my father’s side and unknown tribe near Colorado from which my great-grandfather was kidnapped as a child. Indegenous could refer to the Anangu and other groups of Australia or any number of peoples.

My wife’s cousins are Persian, which is not the same as Arab, yet both are considered Middle Eastern. I could go on with each listed group, but I think the point is clear.

If you truly want to represent everyone, maybe a couple blank spaces could allow more self expression? TYVM.

Magpie Games  Love what I’ve seen of this game so far!

Magpie Games  Love what I’ve seen of this game so far! Just wanted to say that you’ve made it fairly difficult to find on Google. There’s a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode called Masks, and I kept getting reviews of it and stuff when I was trying to find more about your game. Don’t change the name or anything, just wanted to point out a humorous coincidence. 🙂

Congratulations to Brendan Conway on his Masks kickstarter reaching 30k!

Congrats to Kyle Simons for getting his stretch goal unlocked!

While I’m at it, might as well do a quick signal boost to the kickstarter too!:

As I was sharing the beta materials with a friend, I made this statement, and wanted to share it here, because I think it’s important, and I’m very happy that +Brendan Conway went this direction:

“But it has one of my favorite features that I’ve been begging for in superhero games forever: “classes” based on team role rather than power set.  Anybody can have energy blasts or be invulnerable or super-strong. The thing that makes superheroes magical is how they fit in with the other characters in their world. To me, that’s the greatest thing about these playbooks and why I’m so excited to play it.”

Condition Clarifications

My initial read is that when you Directly Engage a threat and trade blows you both inflict a condition on the other. When you avoid their blows you don’t get a condition.

The condition you get is not (usually) the villain putting you in that state. You attack Cygnus and she explodes sonic into you ears isn’t her wanting to make you angry. It is you getting angry, probably about her getting you so easy.

Who choses what conditions are inflicted? Just GM on both sides or do players get to choose how/where they are vulnerable?

When someone attacks the Dread Queen and wants to inflict Insecure on her, does their result fizzle or should I tell them “She doesn’t do Insecure, try something else”?

Hi

Hi

Hi,

backed the game today, and I’m liking what I’m seeing. But had a doubt.

The Directly-Engage says that “on a hit, you trade blows”, and one of the options is avoiding the enemy blows. But what are the mechanical effects of trading blows? What happens to your character if you don’t avoid the enemy blows? How do you knockout/defeat you enemy?

“And of course, since then, the people of Halcyon have realized that, sure, the Golden Generation was pretty sexist.

“And of course, since then, the people of Halcyon have realized that, sure, the Golden Generation was pretty sexist.

“And of course, since then, the people of Halcyon have realized that, sure, the Golden Generation was pretty sexist. And racist.”

Why exactly have you decided on this? Is it just to closely mirror how comics actually were? It is a good way to engage with that part of history but I still wonder.

On a Supers Actual Play podcast I listened to they made the conscious decision that their first Superhero/Superman analogue was black. I like that alternative of a comic world that is a bit more bright.

We have all that cynical stuff with the Bronze generation anyway and the art of the game makes it feel so much like a lighter and more fun world.

This is not a complaint, I just want to know.
