This is the play report for the sixth session of my M-Com Monster of the Week campaign. Last session, one of the players took a second character as an advance and in this session the ancient sorceress shows how far beyond the modern magi she is.

In addition, she comes with some other interesting information.

This was an interesting situation where occasionally one of the players was talking to himself. After this, I expect the player will be switching between which of the two characters he’s playing at any given time.

The characters finally settle the supernatural matters in the Lake Kaindy area.

Started a MotW game with my family. We mainly handled character building. Game is set in the late 1990s in Austin. Wife is playing the Crooked named Ell, son is playing a 74 yr. old flake named Bulder, and daughter is playing a divine named Lotus.

Made the mistake of thinking too much about my first mystery though and think it’s overly complicated for the group. My wife is taking notes and is interested, my son’s curiosity is peaked, but my little girl is lost and is a long for the ride. Sometimes, I just need to remember that a bug hunt can be a bug hunt.

Instead, they’ve seen what appear to be three wolf attacks one occurring on the last full moon, another this full moon, and the last just the night before not during a full moon. It occurs that there is a werewolf, but the real man behind the curtain is an old taxidermist turned wolfbanner (i.e. wolf charmer). He is using wolf-banns to incite the attacks on a group of people who harmed his granddaughter.

So this may go to waste as far as a super cool unfolding mystery, but at least the wife and kids all want to still play again!

Professional player: “I’m taking get an agency team, can I make it this team we have right now? Because they all have names and such?”

Me: “Sure.”

Agent Kasper Sierzant (Professional): “All right, it’s official, you all are assigned to me. Right? So I think this is good. We’ve got Psychic chick.”

NPC Squaddie: “Squaddie Daley, Sir.”

Kasper: “Right, psychic chick. Some techies and a magic person and Rookie Redshirt.”

NPC Rookie: “Umm, Rookie Price, sir.”

“Right, Rookie Yellow Shirt. And if the lady that turned into a statue last mission is ever cured, we got three tacticals and three scholar types. Anyway, we’re a good balanced team and I’m the only adult male and you’re all ladies. So that’s good too.”

Chosen: groan

NPC Dr. Richards: “Commander Adrense would like to talk to you about that sexual harassment training, sir.”

*****************************

When the player promotes the red-shirts I gave him to mauve shirts by improvement but his character has -1 Charm.

The Professional is planning on bringing in a second character soon.

Said character will be a time-displaced badass ainu martial artist shaman who happens to be a woman.

Can someone give me advice on how to make the game a little less hectic when you have six players at the table?

I know that six players is a lot for a PbtA game, but since Monster of the Week it’s rooted in TV shows, maybe there’s some way to give each scene some form of “cinematic structure”.

So this evening we finally wrapped up our twenty episode, four season show of ‘Paradisium’.  The finale episode was an whopping seven hours as the Big Boss defeating mucguffin had to be built, intricate plans crafted and touching base and saying goodbye to beloved NPCs.

The McGuffin was creating a sword scabbard based off the concept of the perfect scabbard to trap the conceptual spirit of edged weapons , Father of Knives, who was attempted to achieve godhood.  They had to come up with what the original perfect scabbard looked like and how that concept would look like in their ‘modern’ era.  They had to decide what materials they would use to build up and why (metaphysical meaning), how they would get the materials and the creation process.  Allies were tapped, cattle ranchers were bargained with and luck was burned making up for bad creation rolls.

By the end of the episode, our Monstrous turned into a full demon (after secretly trading to his soul for an essential component of the mcguffin) and flew off.  His soul is now in the possession of a fallen angel who is a sassy ‘come over for tea and orgies’ frenemy of the PCs.   A future mini-series (1 or 2 episode one-off) is possible for the other PCs to win his soul back.  The Expert(Watcher) rode off into the sunset having accepted President Teddy Roosevelt’s offer to join him in forming a US Army hunter task-force.   And our Divine is left at a cross-roads, uncertain where to go,  She can join her Watcher (the Expert) on the East Coast with the US Army, stay and help fight along side the new Slayer(Chosen NPC) in San Francisco, or to strike out on her own and win back her friend’s soul.

For one of the players is the first campaign they’d ever completed.  For myself it was the first campaign that I had run that completed and the second completed campaign period.    There are couple of multi-session one-offs on the drawing board as well as a possible follow up series (campaign) with people playing as beloved NPCs and/or new characters.
