Here’s a Mystery for the Road …

It’s a 2-pages mystery starter, set in New Orleans, with an angel who consumed a strange drug, and changed. Homeless, Drugs, maybe some voodoo, but definitively a case for your hunters !

The Mystery’s hook is based on one of the Adventures for the Supernatural Cortex RPG.

I couldn’t help myself, Stephanie Byrant’s adventure location is just so evocative.

Happy Hunting!

Can’t Sleep—Clowns Will Eat Me

While this is an excellent site I usually use for Dungeon World adventures a few of these adventure locations would work very well for Monster-of-the-Week with a little work. “Can’t Sleep—Clowns Will Eat Me” is an excellent example! All you need to do is write up the Dream Eater (must be killed by magic or enchanted weapons) as the Monster, Doppelgangers as minions (I would drop the mimic and magic item) and you have your own “Something Wicked this Way Comes” evil carnival that Ray Bradbury would envy! Maybe sprinkle in a few custom “mirror maze ” moves to taste and you have a Halloween treat for your hunters!

There will be a Bellairs inspired “The House with a Clock in its Walls” mystery in Michael Sands upcoming New Weirdness expansion; the improved “full version” of “The Witching Hour”.

This was a favorite novel of my childhood and was published long before “Harry Potter”. Hope the movie doesn’t suck, looks great in the trailer.I post this in hope Chris “HyveMynd” Stone-Bush will snap out of his torpid state and become excited. An actual Chris “HyveMynd” Stone-Bush mystery in the expansion should excite everyone else! 🙂

Free issue of Codex(link from the Gauntlet website) with very “adult horror movie” MotW mystery, it reminded me of a Mel Gibson directed Old Catholic Hellraiser (with evil “Weeping Angel” nuns from Doctor Who). For those interested Codex has published a couple of MotW mysteries which outside those published in Michael’s rule book (or the upcoming expansion 🙂 ) that are the exceptional for professionally published MotW mysteries and quite interesting, if usually obviously inspired by a popular film.

Hello everyone.

Hello everyone.

Hello everyone. I had a player mention a great idea for a mystery. I am looking for follow up ideas. Her player is a crooked and the person that was A former contact is a werewolf that her crime family held for illegal fights. He escaped and injured her on the way out and is looking to cause her trouble.

So the mystery idea is “Monster Fight Club”. That is a cool idea. But how to implement it? Looking for some cool things to throw at them.

I’m thinking about a casino-themed mystery and I’d like to add a little gamble to the advancing rules for this one session. A strange idea for a home rule came to me, maybe you’ll find it useful 🙂

Improvement Roulette!

When you mark your fifth experience point, instead of choosing an Improvement, you can assign “1”, “2” and “3” to three of Improvements you can choose. Then roll two dice separately.

The first die decides which Improvement do you actually get – 1-2 means “1”, 3-4 means “2” and 5-6 means “3”.

The second die gives an extra effect:

1 – fate is unkind, take -1 forward.

2 – fate is kind, take +1 forward to the first use of your new Improvement, reroll if it can’t be actively used.

3 – you’ve learned something, gain 1 experience.

4 – you’ve inspired someone, give another Hunter 1 experience.

5 – lucky times await, the Keeper has to create a situation where your Improvement is very useful during this or next mystery.

6 – Jackpot! Choose any two other results, both apply.
