All right.

All right.

All right. After nearly a complete rework, and lots of helpful advice (especially from Jackson Tegu Ben Wray and Hans Chung-Otterson) I’ve finished the latest version of my Kitsune Skin. I’ve attempted to keep the Japanese mythology, while making the Skin more of a metaphor for some aspect of teenage life, in this case, compulsive lying. There are still a few things missing (Backstory and physical appearance), but as always feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks. 🙂

Nine Tales

Whenever you tell the complete and total truth, without exaggeration, embellishment, or omissions, give anyone listening to you a String against you.

Yes, it’s meant to be negative. I’m still working on my Kitsune and Tengu Skins, but am trying to make them more of a metaphor for some aspect of teenage life as people have suggested. The Kitsune has become the compulsive liar. They’re the kid who, for whatever reason, simply can not tell the truth even if their life depends on it.

I was trying to find a way to encourage that kind of behaviour and really drive home that this is a compulsion, not a choice on the Kitsune’s part. I’m pretty happy with the above move and just wanted to get some feedback. Nine Tales would, of course, be a mandatory move (one that’s already chosen for the Skin). Thoughts?

So I was wondering, what program do you guys use to make your Skins all beautiful and official-looking?

I was thinking of writing a playbook which explored issues of parental abuse.

It incredibly tough to pitch this right. Its a really thin line between addressing the issues in a forthright way and being unnecessarily vulgar about it. I know at many tables what I’ve written is going to cross lines. I wouldn’t think of bringing it to the table without discussing the implications of having the skin in play, and making sure everyone was okay with it.

I would like people opinions on what I’ve written. So far this is what I’ve got on virtual paper (initial playbook thoughts):

( Please: If this subject is likely to offend you / trigger bad memories leave the playbook alone. )

This is material I really would like to explore, but I don’t want to traumatise people in play. Has anyone any thoughts as to where to take this playbook? I’d like to find a less blunt approach to these issues?

Also I don’t want a playbook that derails the game. Hence it needs to work with all the other playbooks in a normal Monsterhearts game

The Shadow isn’t about what you are, but what you are not. The Shadow is the dark horse, the puppet master. They’re the one your parents warned you about, a close friend who secretly hates you, someone you trust who’s always lusted after you– the predator, the outsider, the stranger on the playground. Like the Chosen, the Shadow can shift the tone of the game. They take refuge in obscurity, working behind the scenes and breaking the rules of the game. The Shadow is the big bad villain to the Chosen’s hero.

Greetings!

Greetings!

Greetings!

I have enjoyed Monsterhearts for a long time now, and I’ve been working on designing a Skin of my very own. I thought I would share it with this community to see if I could maybe get some feedback on it.

So, introducing the Genius:

The Genius is too clever by half. They’re the guy who won’t shut up about Nietzsche, or the girl who spends her lunch period browsing conspiracy theory websites that prove the government is run by psychic cuttlefish. Anyone who disagrees with them is an idiot, anything bad that happens to them is because of other people’s shortcomings. And every problem has a material solution, be it a ray gun, a robot clone, or an army of psychic cuttlefish.

Enjoy!
