Myself, Alberto Muti and James Graham met up on Saturday to experiment with MC-less gaming of Monsterhearts. I’ve written up my take on the approach we ended up following for general interest. It’s a one page Reference Sheet designed to be used alongside the MH Player Reference Sheet (and replace the MC sheet). It’s not complete as it doesn’t mention Threats/Menaces (which could be subsequently added to a second page to make it a booklet). We discussed some ideas about those, but I don’t feel experienced enough to set anything in stone. Also, I had some problem with the MH font with its ‘o’s so they look pretty funny in this doc.

Surprise! Have another new Monsterhearts skin!

Technically this isn’t new, as a bunch of people have seen an earlier text-only version, but this is updated and now laid out. It’s The Proxy, a skin based on the Slender Man Mythos and its close relatives.

Here’s my first project for my new Patreon campaign! This is the Beast, a new skin for Monsterhearts. This character type was originally inspired by the classic 1945 horror film The Cat People, but it has several modern influences as well. It hasn’t been heavily playtested yet, so I hope people will use it in their games and let me know how things go.

Unlike Kickstarter, this is for funding his experimental, little games rather than a single big project. You pay per game he creates (a new one roughly every 3-5 weeks apparently) and can set a monthly limit to ensure it doesn’t get too expensive.

Wednesday, we do our 2nd roll20 google hangouts Monsterhearts game.  This game has opened up some really cool avenues in the people I’ve played with and the Con game for it was stupidly fun.

I have found that doing it via play by post was a bit odd—ours went wrong very quickly with one player who seemed to rub everyone else the wrong way and soon the players were at each other’s throats.  Face to face seems to be a huge boon to this game.

If anyone’s doing this on roll20, I’ve put together decks of cards with actor headshots from the link in the story-games thread about the Monsterheart cards.  If it’s possible to share them, drop me a line and I’ll get them to you.

The Playbook

When you perform a scam, con, hustle, hoodwink, gambit, flimflam, stratagem or bamboozle to get someone to have sex with you, roll+COOL. On a 10+ the trick works, on a 7-9 choose 1 

– You need expensive stuff to get your trick to work, spend 1 barter

– You get into trouble with one of your past concquest

– You totally look like a dork doing it 

When you have The Playbook change your sex move to this

When you have sex with someone roll+COOL 

On a 10+ you totally nailed them 

On a 7-9 they will come back later and put you into a uncofortable situation of your choosing

When you Interfere with someones Seduce move and they get a 6-, treat it as having seduced them yourself with a 10+
