I made a thing.

I made a thing.

I made a thing. Not sure it is a good thing. It’s a thing that still needs a lot of work (especially on the layout).

This thing is about magic users who burn their own souls for extremely flexible power who live in a highly politicized world where they scramble for position in the court (so they don’t go off tormenting the less powerful).

Also book destruction as a play artifact and everything having ridiculous names in a pbta format.

Thoughts?

P.S. Still no idea what I want to call the game or if the world should have it’s own name, so there are just blanks where those things go.

I had a great time chatting with Christopher about his game The Happiest Apocalypse On Earth, which is being kickstarted right now. We talked about his beginnings on RPGs, the differences and challenges of designing a PbtA game, the inspirations for the themes of the game and much more. Check it out if you are interested and please consider supporting the Kickstarter campaign as well. Thanks!

I’m having some trouble coming up with cool names for the playbooks in Wizard World (my Ars Magica hack). At the moment I’ve got:

Artisan

Analyst

Politician

Scholar

Warrior

They are functional, and they accurately describe the angles the playbooks take, but they don’t have much… pizazz.

Hit me with your best Ars-Magica-appropriate playbook names! (or tell me why I should just leave them the way they are).

NOTE: While I do like them, I feel like the classic D&D sub-types (diviner, evoker, etc) are too close to D&D to be appropriate for Ars Magica.

I’m sharing here this game of mine.

I’m sharing here this game of mine. It’s a Powered by the Apocalypse game with some customisations regarding experience and other factors influencing gameplay – it’s my second attempt at designing an interesting adventure RPG loosely based on folk tales and the Redwall series.

It’s more or less complete, in a preliminary stage. Before starting developing it, though, I’d like to hear other impressions.

Whispering Willows is more-or-less complete. At least, there’s everything needed for a playtest or an alpha reading.

Is there a PbtA hack for Scion, the former White Wolf/now Onyx Path setting?

Is there a PbtA hack for Scion, the former White Wolf/now Onyx Path setting? Or something like it? I love the setting, and it’s got so much amazing lore and concepts, but the original was just an absolute mess to play — they’re releasing a 2.0 revamp from OP later this year, but I read the previews and, having played so many PbtA games since the last time I played Scion, I just can’t do it. I can’t go back to having to read a textbook of rules and systems (lore and mythology, sure! But rules… ugh).

Our table plays Urban Shadows which captures many of the things we used to love about Scion, but it’s not quite the same. I just wondered if anybody knows of anything before I go haring off to hack something.
