I just fixed a previous post so people can comment on it if they wish. I don’t know how that happened there. So if anyone wanted to backtrack and throw ideas my way, I’d be very grateful.

On a separate note my brother and I finally dove into how the Matrix works for the Sprawl and we are very impressed.

Someone posted on here a while ago about the dead games society covering cyberpunk 2013 (basically 2020) and they address the problem that I think most cyberpunk RPG players experience; the frustration of MC/GMing a netrunner character in a party.

My experience with including a Netrunner player into a group of operatives has always, always been bad. Which sucks because it’s such an integral part of the heist element. Dead Games podcast brings this up and how you really miss out on a HUGE piece of the genre by NOT having a netrunner. So this gave me the resolve to dive back into the Sprawl’s Matrix section and really actually learn it.

Hamish has done a lot of work on keeping the spirit of Netrunning alive as envisioned in the original cyberpunk 2020 game. As someone who plays A:NR religiously you can definitely feel it’s influence as well. The way the Matrix works in the Sprawl is clean, streamlined, functional, and FUN! If you (like me) have not given it the chance it deserves I urge you to get a netrunner into the group and make that happen, it’s worth it and will change how you run your games IMO.

TL:DR = The Matrix section of the Sprawl is fucking cool, go read it again and get a Netrunner into your party. Also go comment on my previous post 😉

I’m working on a mission that takes place partially at a rock concert, some of the team are likely to be performing on stage or behind the scenes. I am planning to introduce the following move to be used during the show. comments welcome.

When you fire up the crowd with an incredible Rock performance or pyrotechnics/video display, roll Style.

10+: gain 3 hold

7-9: gain 1 hold

During your performance , you may spend 1 hold at any time to choose 1 from the list below:

– Single out someone or a small group.(they are likely to be pushed/taunted/heckled by the crowd)

– Incite raucous activity in the crowd(moshing rioting etc..)

– Crowd surf to any location within the area of the performance

– Melt the face(figuratively) of everyone in attendance

– The crowd doesn’t go completely out of control or turn on the band.

Hi, all. First time poster, short time lurker, long time fan!

Hi, all. First time poster, short time lurker, long time fan!

I come bearing gifts, and a request! First the gifts:

So I know there are Google Sheets character sheets out there, but I wanted to make my own (for a reason I’ll get to in a second). I made a light and a dark version and I wanted to share them, so here they are:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1yMMZuZCoVEcwbTln8gpzLT83hip4gwTPcfcMba1Awfw

I’m really proud of them, and there’s even a few hidden features like conditional formatting on the Harm cells and hover-over descriptions on the stats. Let me know what you think and I’ll roll out another version if need be.

Second, I come bearing a hack! I haven’t been around long enough to know if it’s alright to just post it, so I wanted to ask first.

I’ve created a major expansion of the vehicle rules to allow deep and creative play with giant robots in the vein of Mobile Suit Gundam, Macross, Patlabor, and other “real robot” anime. Among my key goals were to keep the core gameplay, ideas, and moves of The Sprawl intact with as little modification as possible, so it doesn’t add a whole bunch of extra rules or mechanics.

I’m currently testing it but, honestly, I’m kinda not the best MC… I feel like it’s working well, and it’s as complete as I can get it for now. I want to get it in the hands of other, more experienced players and MCs.

If A) That’s alright for me to do here, and B) anyone’s interested, please let me know. My documentation is very orderly, and footnoted. Seriously, I’ve put about 30-40 hours into it at this point.

Edit: I’ve been given the OK, so here it is:

This is Lagrange Point, a mecha framework for The Sprawl:

How many players can play The Sprawl before it breaks?

How many players can play The Sprawl before it breaks?

How many players can play The Sprawl before it breaks? I’m asking because there’s a con that requires 5 or 6 players as a game minimum size.

How big have your Sprawl games been? Most I’ve ever done was 4 players which seemed ideal.

Help refining or coming up with options. Second session is this Sunday, and the group suddenly has a pilot so now this is actually pertinent. Here is my rough sketch of a move. (also looking to make one dealing with vacuum exposure)

Hard burn: Travel at High Thrust To Get Somewhere ala The Expanse.

“If you strap into a crash couch and go for a hard burn, roll +Meat… (+Synth if you’re a jacked in Pilot?)

On a 7-9 choose one

You don’t take Damage as established by the fiction.

You don’t take -1 forward/ongoing to Meat rolls

You don’t take -1 forward/ongoing to Mind rolls

A piece of cyberware isn’t damaged, (based on tags or player choice)

Another piece of cyberware isn’t damaged. (based on tags/player choice)(?)

You don’t pass out in transit

On a 10+ choose three

On a miss, you need medical attention, and may take damage based upon the fiction.

forward/ongoing: determined by how much you need to push your burn to arrive on time. Stakes related. Optionally, high burn might force you to choose fewer options, while lower burn might let you choose more?

This may be tangentially related, but Aethercon is a free online RPG convention which also has panel discussions, and one is on the different “schools” of character-class design. As character class and playbooks are central to PbtA games, it may be of interest.

The narrative game style has got me hooked and it looks like it’s the new gaming renaissance. I just finished my first play through of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and have been simultaneously reading up on Blades in the Dark and revisiting my love of all things Sprawl related and have been endeavoring to write a hack for BitD with a cyberpunk flair.

I really want to thank Hamish Cameron for creating such a great product that has given me a fresh take on a genre I have loved for 13 years and hope that my own design work can come close to it.

If anybody’s interested, I have included it below. It’s an ongoing work-in-progress, obviously.

Been reading the book over the past few days and I noticed that there’s no Principle for “Never speak the name of your move” which is odd, because every other PbtA game I’ve seen has that. Is there a reason for excluding it or is that idea considered to fall under “Begin and end with the fiction”?
