I’m pretty new to PbtA and have been dying to try it. This week, we’re on a break from our regular game, so I’m going to run a UW one shot. Yay!

I wanted to make a few example origin/career/career combos (and archetypes to go with them) using iconic Sci Fi characters (maybe some from Firefly, Farscape, and/or Star Wars characters) just to give my friends a point of comparison during char gen. However, my search-fu is pretty weak. Have people already done this somewhere? If not, what do people think would be some examples?

For instance, at a quick glance (not going for perfect accuracy since they’re just examples, not pregens for play), I’d say Jayne Cobb would be a Brutal Military Scoundrel w/ Mercenary archetype while Mal would be a Rustic Military Personality w/ a Space Cowboy archetype.

Any other suggestions?

I am looking for some guidance on debt – it’s a great concept and I was happy to see it featured so prominently in the game.

But I don’t see how it engages with the rest of the rules. Where do moves and debt interface?

I was looking for something similar to what exists in Urban Shadows – but the lack of engagement with the rest of the system kind of brought me up short just as I was getting really excited to run this game.

Help me see what I’m missing – I’ve got some scifi to play!

For cybernetic upgrades I’m thinking you get 2 mods which can be drawn from the vehicle upgrades list. Boosters would be cybernetic legs that let you jump real high. Maybe a neural implant that let’s you make Access rolls using interface “wirelessly”. Armored or plated is titanium bone grafts.

When you enter the matrix so to speak you get data points to represent downloading software packages (I know Kung fu). Or this could represent a skill chip implant when not in the matrix.

What do you think?

“All characters start with a number of debts, determined during character creation.”

I did not find any mention of Debts in the Character Creation chapter and there’s no page reference for this statement.

How I figure out starting debt? Page references very much appreciated.

Hey guys.

Hey guys.

Hey guys. How do you run an investigation type game using this rules set? I want to run a game where the pcs are GalSec security forces tracking down a rogue Brekengraf super soldier that has been killing people in the city. I want the pcs to have to track down npcs and investigate locations where this soldier has been but I don’t want to pre-script the outcome. Any advice?

I’m working on a Series Framework (which I need a better name for, but that’s neither here nor there) for Uncharted Worlds. The idea is to put together a campaign setting document that makes several campaign choices ahead of time for players to just dive right in without spending an hour or more creating factions and such. Right now I’m thinking about content and figured I’d put my ideas out there to the community.

I figure I’ll include a high level concept of the setting, ships and gear as appropriate to reinforce the themes of the setting, recommendations on careers/origins that work best for the setting, the factions for the specific setting + lists of options for players and MC’s to consider to personalize the details while maintaining the core ideas, a planet or two as appropriate, a custom move or two that reinforce the specific scope of the series, and a series-specific jump point. I’m sure there are other things I’m missing or forgetting about.

Thoughts from the community? Sean Gomes?
