Last night I started the groundwork for a Urban Shadows campaign with my two teen daughters. I pitched it being like The Mortal Instruments and Beautiful Creatures books. Last night was character creation and setting creation. I realized that the debts statement were great for making NPCs.

My eldest made a hunter named Beatrice and her sister made a fey named Fiona.

I even bothered to make a site for it on Obsidian Portal: https://new-york-nights-2.obsidianportal.com

I have a question about the new advancement rules.  It assumes there is a relatively equal representation of factions in games which will not always be the case.  The campaign I just finished was very heavy in wild and mortal, had a little night, and not much power.  We were using the old advancement rules, so it wasn’t an issue.  What is the recommendation for this kind of game

I have a question, I want to back the project, I want to get 2 copies of the softcover book with international shipping, that would be 60$, should I choose the 25$ level with a 60$ pledge and add some kind of message?

Going to try and run a one shot this Friday. I have an idea of what I’m gonna do. I wanna know what you guys think would be a good city or place to run it in.

I know it’s really hard to play one shots using Powered by the Apocalypse but I wanted to see how it would turned out. Granted I’ve never GM’ed this game before. I’m really excited to try it out.

Thanks for your input

Question: I know that this game is mostly designed for city settings (hey it’s right there in the name) but how would you guys think it would work to do a bunch of closely grouped suburban towns (I’ve got SO MANY threat ideas for the NJ shore… SO MANY)? Has anyone tried this kind of set up? Does it screw up game dynamics horribly?

Vampire Vlad’s door is kicked in by an NPC monster hunter and the MC tells Vlad’s player the hunter is about to fire his shotgun at Vlad.

Vlad dives to cover to avoid being hit.

Which move does he use? Escape or Keep Your Cool?

What happens if I am in the center of a city and just want to observe the area for potential threats? It no longer works as “Figure someone out” and it is not “investigate a Place of Power” since it is not a place of power. What do my players then do? I think this can be easily solved by saying “Figure someone/something out”.

Also, I am loving the new debt move and the better treatment of factions.

Oh man, these are hot.

In order to get experience you have to mess around with every faction, generating plot? Excellent.

New debt stuff? Way clearer. And the refuse to honor a debt is going to make players squirm.

The only thing I’m not sure about is the way your faction scores go up and down. First, I think you should explicitly cap it at some point— max +3 seems logical. Second, UF protagonists tend to collect knowledge, pull and influence almost as quickly as they collect magical powerups. I feel like there ought to be some way to increase one without decreasing others. Maybe that’ll be handled in the playbooks?
