On more than one occasion a player who is rolling+trust to interfere with a fellow player has expressed a concern with the mechanic. Rolling+Trust to help someone, gather resources or hit the streets seems great, but when it comes to that interfere, something is jarring.

“I don’t trust this guy’s faction, so why am I hindered in trying to resist their moves?” It’s a valid question. When I first designed this section I meant Trust to be how much you and a faction’s member trust one another and how much you understand the other. I think the wording of Trust is misleading and leads a player to interpret this as their character’s Trust in a faction solely.

So, how do I fix this? Do I simply change the naming of the system to something like Affiliation or Rapport or Kinship? Or do we change the way Interfere works. I’ve had it suggested that when you Interfere with a player, you invert your score. For example, if you’re Trust in Wild was -2 and you were Interfering with a Fae, it would change to a +2 for these purposes but remain a negative number when rolling Help or the other Faction moves. This may work, but I feel like adding in a negative/positive switch-up like this is going to confuse players, especially the less rules-intrigued ones. Less is more after all.

Any input would be appreciated. I’d rather make a change with other points of view considered. Thank you.

Was looking through the Weapon rating, and got curious Andrew Medeiros why baseball bat is with grievous?

Was looking through the Weapon rating, and got curious Andrew Medeiros why baseball bat is with grievous? I get it that it does more damage than a punch, but I would say less than a gun or sword. I am guessing that with the limited ratings, just had to throw it in and maybe “round up”?

On the list of things I am having trouble with so hoping for a bit of help is Ghoul creation for vampires.

First, is a move needed? If not, how would you work the situation?

If so, I am thinking about it adding to a gang that you can create? Should they have any additional abilities from being a ghoul? Should their be a max?

Would love any help given, as I am roadblocking on this one.

This should give the quick scoop of what is going on before we play Wed.

John Layton and Anton Dominic, this should help when showing your friends.

Cody Broussard, I know you mentioned you were interested in writing some stuff for Changeling, but I am curious which one. I am guess Changeling the Dreaming over Changeling the Lost, but I want to make sure.

Here is why I ask! If you are doing Changeling the Dreaming, then we can use the current Fae book as the premise and as we did with the other books, setup and tack on all the extras to guide the book and the players toward a WoD style. So, the book is done and once we chat, you are golden to start.

If you are instead going with Changeling the Lost, I will need to coerce Andrew Medeiros to write me some kind of Doppleganger/polymorph character as I mentioned in the events thread as CtL is based around people being stolen and altered by beings/aliens, ect and then put back in society (sometimes minutes, sometimes years passing) all while a Doppleganger is living your life. Then after that, you can start from there?

Point being, which one?

Ran the first play test tonight with Anton Dominic, Steve Moore, and John Layton with an appearance of Andrew Medeiros. Game went rather well, we have lots of work to do, and a lot done!

Move of the night! Steve Moore’s Werewolf attacks a local gang in a park, racing his bike through the middle of their group to scatter them out. As he rushes through, he is forced to make a choice to either wreck his bike or run over a 6 year old blowing out her birthday cake. What do you think he did? Well, at least he manned up and marked corruption.

Andrew Medeiros, Why “Threaten an NPC” rather than a general “Threaten” move where it can be used on PC’s as well.

Wouldn’t it just be a slightly different mechanic, but under the same header? The only difference is if the player listens, they get XP?

Had my brother-in-law and his friend over yesterday afternoon.

Had my brother-in-law and his friend over yesterday afternoon. They had never played an RPG before and wanted to try it so I offered to run them a game. I gave them about 6 game choices and to my pleasant surprise they chose Urban Shadows as the game to try.

I was super nervous about it, I had never run a group of newbs before.

They chose a Tainted and Specter to play and the session went very well. They both took to playing in character quickly and with almost no hesitation and before we all knew it we had created a wonderfully complex relationship map between them and their family/friends and we had a fun session. They would like to play again and bring along one of their sisters next time who is also interested.
