Ran my first session last night. It was pretty sweet. Surprised at how with essentially no prep, we could sit down and tell an amazing story.

A demon hunter was possessed by a demon. A kidnapped woman was searched for, though not found, and a circle of witches was driven from the city.

Crazy stuff. Can’t wait for next week.

While I’m not so gauche as to ask for the rules, could someone whet my appetite and tell me a little about what the Angel, Immortal, and Dragon look like in play? I’m waiting for those playbooks as a non-backer and it is killing me.

One of my groups characters is a hunter, who got trained in a school, which got destroyed by werewolves.

One of my groups characters is a hunter, who got trained in a school, which got destroyed by werewolves. He wants to go back to the ruins to retrieve a useful item he knows was there in a secret room.

Now I thought about making this scene a custom action, because it seems boring to play the whole thing out, but the options I came up with as well as the reward all seems so clear cut. Not open ended as usual with the moves. Is this an ok custom action or should I change something up?

Searching the hunter school:

Roll with Mind. On a hit you find what you were looking for.

On a 7-9 choose one of these:

The werewolves will find out you were here

You attract the attention of a malicious spirit

You activated hidden traps while searching. Take 2 damage.

On a miss something goes terribly wrong

How do you handle multiple people wanting to roll for the same move at the same time?

How do you handle multiple people wanting to roll for the same move at the same time?

How do you handle multiple people wanting to roll for the same move at the same time? I find this is fine for some moves, but not so much for others.

For example: When I introduce a new character, I’ll often have 2-5 people suddenly asking if they can put a name to a face. No problem – each of them knows something different about this person. They’re all welcome to roll. But when a group of 5 of them wants to hit the streets to visit a contact together, it doesn’t really make sense for everybody to roll – one person might roll a 10+ (they have the stuff!) but another might roll a 7-9 (they’re juggling their own problems/it’s costly) and yet another might roll a miss (and who knows what that means).

I’ve just been letting everybody roll because everybody’s eager to mark factions, but I’m starting to get a little confused…

I am going to start to MC a campaign of Urban Shadows and the city we have chosen is Barcelona (Catalonia). I am having a tough time writing some interesting city movements. Is there a list where I can choose from, or could you give me some hints, ideas or examples of city movements you use in your campaign? I would be very grateful.

Any idea is welcome, thank you!

Had a question regarding changing archetypes. It’s not specified in the advancement section but what happens with a persons corruption moves and the amount of corruption the character has? Right now I’m thinking you keep the corruption and the corruption moves (or pick a new one if the old one doesn’t make sense).

For instance we have a Tainted changing into to Veteran and he has the corruption move to change into Demon form with all the benefits but when he becomes a veteran he will have severed his contract with his patron thus making turning into a demon impossible.

What do you guys think?

I’d like some advice on faction handling – involving factions in order to advance is starting to feel artificial to me. We have a lot of little running threads which each player interested in different things. If you have one player over here dealing with a vamp gun runner who’s trying to push a local pack of thug wolves out of town, it’s fine to have to go to someone else for help, but to have to involve Mortality, Power, AND Wild in some way in order to chase advancement – it’s a little strained.

Some of this could be in how the underlying conflicts are setup (vamps vs wolves could easily have been vamps vs fae), but I don’t really think it’s fair to require that underlying conflicts always cross factions.

So I guess my concern is – if you’re in a situation where sessions focus on 1-2 factions at a time instead of the spectrum, how do you keep the players advancing without shoehorning in other factions in nearly non-sensical ways?

If a Veteran takes Back At It and takes a Corruption move from another archetype that has “mark Corruption” on use, does the Veteran mark it once or twice?

What about the Wolf’s Force of Nature? Would the mark Corruption whenever they rolled Blood or would they be able to choose when the +1 Blood applied.
