Looking to restart my playtest for the World of Darkness add-on to Urban Shadows in the next few weeks now that Urban Shadows is clsoe to finalized. Was hard to work on y add-on when so much was being changed. Will be playing a variety of books to playtest the docs, starting with Vampire the Masquerade.

You must have access to the latest Urban Shadows play docs.

I’ve been wanting to play US for a while and was wondering if anyone was interested in running a short or long campaign. Didn’t see any terribly recent posts about people starting up games.

Quick question regarding archetypes and their starting stats.

Quick question regarding archetypes and their starting stats. It’s come to my attention that, using the 2, 1, 0, -1 stat layout in the 1.1 book, the archetype I recently made can start with +3 Blood. While the Wolf can as well, the archetype I created thrives especially in combat, so +3 Blood from the start always seemed a little… broken? I was concerned about this when first writing it, too.

So the question is this: If I were to make the starting layout, before the free point is added, say… Blood 1, Heart 0, Mind 0, Spirit 1, is that just as balanced as Blood 2, Heart -1, Mind 0, Spirit 1? Or should I definitely stick to the format in the original group of US archetypes?

Hope I’m doing this right.

Hope I’m doing this right.

Hope I’m doing this right. And putting it in the right place. My first ever post on… any community, actually! I’m very new to Urban Shadows (as in, “I only started reading up on Apocalypse World in general as of about two and a half weeks ago”), but I got a creative itch with this lovely hack that very quickly needed scratching. So forgive me if it’s unbalanced! Feedback would also be appreciated for that reason.

Hey folks.

Hey folks.

Hey folks. Los Angeles city guide writer here.  All of us city guide writers are busy turning in our drafts for editing, and I have to say I’m pretty excited about how L.A. has turned out so far. We’ve still got tweaking to do, but I’m stoked to be able to share my vision of the place where I work and play! L.A. is weird and awesome and I think you’re going to have a lot of fun : )

I was just asked about the intro question ‘what does your character desperately need’ by a player in my new campaign and was wondering how you would clarify a good answer to the question.

Is a good nights sleep a compelling answer for a Oracle suffering terrible nightmares?

I’m running the game Andy Hauge  is in. We had some great moments last night. My favorite was the end of the session when Galina the Hunter and her mentor Alexis tracked down rumors of a demon possession to a beach house in Venice. Alexis was making vague accusations towards Galina the whole time, implying disloyalty to their hunting party. When they arrived at the house a party was going on which left Galina a bit confused about what was going on.

Alexis led her upstairs where they found Bella, the ghost-tormented twenty-something daughter of Ron the Tainted. Without hesitation, Alexis fired and struck Bella in the head killing her. This triggered the appearance of a demon Galina had a run in with earlier who subsequently broke her arm and set his sights on Alexis. Sensing his daughter in trouble, Ron the Tainted appeared in full demon form and crushed in Alexis skull to get at a protection amulet she wore with the hopes of aiding Bella. It didn’t work and Ron has to pledge himself to the demon to ensure Bella’s survival.

Galina sized up the Nameless Demon and realized that he would be vulnerable if she committed an act of corruption. As a hunter, her corruption move was to kill a mortal while in pursuit of a supernatural being. She eyed her mentor Alexis and made the decision to finish her off. For that brief moment she was infused with enough corruption to grab the Nameless Demon by the horns and snap its neck. In that instant, the Demon’s hold on Ron transferred to Galina. Now she is a hunter with a demon at her command. And that’s how the session wrapped up.

In my first session of a short-run game (which was brief, because we also had character creation), I was the stupid Aware who brought mage attention onto the Wolf’s turf.

In my second session, I dropped a name to get the mages off my back, waltzed in all cocky to the Wolf’s hangout, and then after the Wolf tangled with some mages outside, wound up getting to know the Night faction a little more closely than I’d bargained on.

I accordingly got to advance after the intimacy move with the Wolf, and decided to pick up the Wolf’s move Reckless.

I think I turned around.
