Hey friends, this small Kickstarter includes expansion material for WWWRPG, including off-camera interactions and more detailed support for promos! I’m not involved at all except to say “great, sounds good” so I can’t vouch for the details as yet, but I’m definitely pleased to see the WWWRPG Universe expanding.

Anyway, it’s already funded, and will include material for Blades in the Dark and Monsterhearts along with WWWRPG and any other additional goals she adds. Take a look!

So this past game was kind of a clusterfuck of rules.

So this past game was kind of a clusterfuck of rules.

So this past game was kind of a clusterfuck of rules. Can a heel-to-win swerve be interrupted? How does a face ever win if a heel never loses? What are some examples both kayfabe and backstage to deal with this? Does a heel need to show how they won to actually win, so it makes sense fictionally?

An example from tonight’s game: face was booked to win in triple threat cage/ladder. Face was out cold from a big spot, and the other two were heels. One heel grabbed the other’s mask and turned it so it blinded him and went to climb the cage trying to use the heel move to win. The other heel spent 1 momentum to use the interrupt. Is this possible in the rules?

Up until this point we were really focused on the fiction and making the match exciting and believable, but wanting to “win” got in the way when creative announced the booking.

We ended with a little salt, which died down after discussing it for a bit, but I figured I would run it by the experts.

Does the method of winning have to make sense in fiction? Like the cattle prod on Goldberg type thing? Or in a cage match secret handcuffs hidden by the heel?

Would disrupting a players mask result in a win with a third party, and if not force a heel player to pick another option instead of win?

Sorry for the long post but it was confusing. And thank you for your time.

I have a theory/hope about Wrestlemania.

I have a theory/hope about Wrestlemania.

I have a theory/hope about Wrestlemania.

Right now, they’re building up to a match between Shane McMahon and AJ Styles. This is, to put it mildly, ridiculous. Shane isn’t a believable threat to AJ in the ring, any more than he was to the Undertaker, “guts and refusal to give up” notwithstanding.

So here’s my dream scenario for this. AJ enters the WM ring first, ready to fight, but not at all concerned. He’s got Shane’s measure, and the announcers could even play up a bit or refer to a past vignette where AJ didn’t even feel the need to warm up properly, that he’s going to pin Shane in his sleep.

Shane’s entrance music hits, and he comes down to the ring, mic in hand. He steps inside, but gestures to the ring announcer to wait before getting things started. He cuts a promo about how he’s been studying tapes of AJ’s fights, and how the more he watched, the more he realized that taking AJ on was sheer folly, that AJ is just too damn good. A bit of grudging acceptance and acknowledgement that AJ would definitely take him in a straight-up match. This could be emphasized further by having Shane receive some sort of kayfabe injury the week before — his arm in a sling, perhaps.

Shane concludes by saying that watching all those old tapes of AJ’s matches over the last few years, including those in Japan, gave him an idea. Just because he acknowledges AJ’s skill and power doesn’t mean that he thinks AJ should get away with any of this. So instead of facing AJ himself, Shane called in… a specialist.

Cue the music of SHINSUKE NAKAMURA.

Crowd loses its goddamn mind, and Nakamura enters, possibly with an army of hot violinist redheads at his heels, getting the full-blown Wrestlemania Moment treatment, on par with Rusev getting a Russian Tank from a couple years back. Ranallo is losing his mind on commentary, gushing about the battles that Nakamura and Styles have fought in Japan, the stuff of five-star legends… and then AJ and Shinsuke proceed to steal the show.

That’s how I’d book it, anyway.

D: Hi there, I’m Donny Moolah and i’m joined here tonight with my Broadcast colleague Ralph O’Reigh as we welcome you to a packed Roderick Toombs Memorial Arena in the beautiful city of Glasgow, Scotland.

R: That’s right Donny, Tonight we’ll see the cream of the crop of World wrestling take to this, the theatre of kings to prove their all and show they have what it takes.

D: Tonight you’ll see such superstars as Ragin’ Rod as he defends the GwoW Championship against all comers.

R: And of course, all eyes will be on Big Buddy, the holder of the most prestigious title in GwoW, The All Star Belt.

D: Buddy has done well to hold on to that belt as long as he has Ralph, Surely it’s only a matter of time before a younger and more hungry competitor takes it from it.

R: Only time will tell Donny, but I think your selling him short. Big Buddy has been the rock this company has been built on. The will to win is strong in him and I predict he’s got more fight left in him than you think.

D: Anyway, Speaking of younger and more hungry competitors, Tonight sees the return of the Titan that is A. P. Glen door.

R: I think you’ll find that’s Ap Glyn Dwr, Donny, You should be careful, you know he gets excitable when people get his name wrong.

D: Dully noted Ralph, Dully Noted.

R: And also joining us tonight is that darling of the amateur scene who did good. The King of Cool, The Prime minister of Sinister, Chester Talbot.

D: I don’t know Ralph, he doesn’t seem to have that drive to go that extra mile to win that screams future champion to me.

R: What you mean Donny, is that he’s got a code of honour and that’s something every truly great champion has to have.

D: We’ll have to agree to disagree then Ralph.

R: What ever

D: So, it’s that time that we turn to the ring for the start of our show tonight. Welcome to Gauntlet World of Wrestling!!!

Hey friends, Lucha Underground (Season 1 and 2) have hit (American) Netflix!

I’m still finishing up my long-delayed watch of S1 (I’m on Ultima Lucha now), but if you wanted an example of a kayfabe-heavy show that demonstrates a lot of how WWWRPG looks in play, you could do a lot worse.

If you’re a wrasslin’ purist it may not do much for you but if you haven’t had a chance to see it, I can heartily recommend Season 1 (it really hits its stride as a show from the midpoint on), and I look forward to catching up on Season 2.

Nathan, I’m having a blast running WWW!

Nathan, I’m having a blast running WWW! Even my players who are NOT wrestling fans are really getting into it. I have a quick question.

When a match ends and we calculate heat and award audience, if both gain audience and hit four do they both stay there? Do they both make the Over move at the beginning of the next session?

Thanks for any answer…and a big Thank You for making a truly playable pro wrestling game!
