Last night’s episode of Urban Shadows was superb yet again! We have gone the entire 8+ session campaign without a single Intimacy Move triggering and last night we had THREE!! It was great fun! A campaign of high caliber indeed!

Urban Shadows fans!

Urban Shadows fans!

Urban Shadows fans! Today marks the 1-month mark for the close of the official play-test term. Starting Nov 11th, the play-test files will be archived (and fully available to players and mc’s) as we move into the completion of our main body and text. This is going to be an exciting and busy time and I encourage any of you who have feedback to express that to me via this community or directly by email (pheylorn at g mail dot com) before then.

Thank you for all the support so far and to come. You have made this game far superior to what I could have made on my own. bows

Hello Urban Shades!

Hello Urban Shades!

Hello Urban Shades!

Version 1.1 of the play-test rules are live. You can find them under the standard link in the Version 1.1 folder. Changes have been highlighted to make them quick to notice.

The biggest changes are thus;

-Back by hugely popular demand are Stand Strong and Let the Darkness In.

-Debts have been reverted to the traditional style but re-worked to work especially closely with the Faction Moves.

Ask a Favour is back to Persuade and has been totally re-tooled.

I have play-tested these changes myself and they seem very sleek. Enjoy!

Ran an awesome session yesterday of Urban Shadows.

Ran an awesome session yesterday of Urban Shadows.

Ran an awesome session yesterday of Urban Shadows. Our teenage Wolf pack leader led her pack into a vampire den to rescue three of their captured members. Along for the ride was the Hallowed, armed with his magical dragon slaying sword Ascalon and his shiny new monster hunting team of true believers. Needless to say they mopped the floor with them! Can’t wait for the next session!

(This is a game with mostly RPG newbs and I am delighted at how well they have embraced the hobby and how much passion they bring to my table. What a treat for me!)

There has been a lot of constructive discussion on the changes and how we can make the game even better, and so I have compiled a quick 3-minute survey to compile people’s thoughts on the changes from version 0.9 to 1.0. Check it out if you are able and I will make sure you find your name in our play-testers section of the book. Thanks! 🙂

Alright folks, the latest version of Urban Shadows is now live.

Alright folks, the latest version of Urban Shadows is now live.

Alright folks, the latest version of Urban Shadows is now live. Some significant, and we hope improved, changes have been implemented. You can find the documents under the same link as always or here https://www.dropbox.com/sh/v1dzfzn0bvdxgr4/IlfhqzalfY under the folder Version 1.0. I will be archiving the older versions for you all too in case you are sticking with one of those for your campaigns.

Here is a list of the changes;

Unleash has had it’s text revised.

Threaten an NPC no longer costs corruption, and cleaned up the text.

Persuade is now Ask a Favour and includes the main use of Debts as well. It’s essentially three moves in one cause we needed to cheat like that. 🙂

Study Someone has had some of the question list revised.

Keep an Eye Out questions can now be held until later in the scene and the questions have been revised.

Stand Strong has been removed. Take a Chance will fill it’s shoes when needed.

Let the Darkness In has been changed to Extend Your Preternatural Senses, but otherwise operates much the same as before with slight revision.

Hit the Streets has had its text cleaned up and changed to encourage NPC generation.

Gather Resources is now Call in the Cavalry and has been simplified. This is the move for gathering a force to deal with big threats!

End of Session move altered to include all factions being possibly modified and a Debt take/give away exercise.

Debt implementation is now part of Ask A Favour and calls for a Heart roll to both reward highlighted stats and add in some chance to their use.

The current Injury system has been replaced with a new Harm/Injury hybrid. Making armour more useful and weapon ratings/tags more specific.

All the Archetypes have seen revision and updating for the new Harm system and Basic Move changes. Some playbook moves have been removed and replaced with new moves. Most notably the Wolf, Dragon, Hallowed, and Oracle.

As always, any issues you encounter, let us know. We love all your feedback! It helps makes our game better!

Started listening/reading Hounded, the first book in the Iron Druid Chronicles and so far I am diggin’ it.

Started listening/reading Hounded, the first book in the Iron Druid Chronicles and so far I am diggin’ it. It is scratching the urban fantasy itch perfectly!

Thanks to Tim Franzke for recommending it a while back. 🙂

Some big changes are coming to Urban Shadows.

Some big changes are coming to Urban Shadows.

Some big changes are coming to Urban Shadows. The Beta play-test, as we’re calling it, will involve several improvements and revisions, including the following;

A huge overall of the basic moves with revisions, changes, and in one case, a removal.

The Faction moves have all been revised.

End of Session move expanded.

Debt uses are shortened and stream-lined for the time being. Planning on building from the ground up.

The current Injury system has been replaced with a new Harm/Injury hybrid. Making armour more useful.

All the Archetypes have seen revision and updating for the changes. Some Archetype moves have been removed and replaced with (hopefully) superior ones.

Will be releasing the Beta Play-test in the next week or so. Will also be happy to discuss and share early with those who attend the play-test discussion on Wednesday evening.

Thanks for being a part of this awesome community and showing your interest in the game so far! It’s very much appreciated.
