A bit of fun from my weekly Masks: New Legends game. The team recently learned that Azurite (The Reformed)’s villainous recently-ex girlfriend is planning to lure them into an ambush, blackmailing Ocelotl (The Janus) into fighting on her side. The natural response, of course, was to ask for help, which is exactly what AO YEAH! (The DOOOMED) did, using Capeconnect, a social media network for both heroes and villains run by the enigmatic Steve. Seemed like the perfect opportunity to make use of the #halcyonian hero roster, so Sparkus Clark’s Emerald Errant will be making an appearance.

Related note, does anybody have any tips on running big combats with multiple supers on both sides? I’m guessing it’s mainly going to be a smattering of splash panels and zoom-outs and hoping for the best, but any advice would be appreciated!

Villain: Technosaurus Rex

What appears to be a robot or exoskeleton Allosaurus is tearing appart the city; stomping on cars and people alike.

Technosaurus Rex – Silver Generation

Drive: To bring back Dinosaurs, elevate them to sentience and have them rule this earth once again

Real Name: Katya Yazzie

Look: Female, Indigenous & Russian parentage, built like a brick wall and almost as tall, face made for smiling, comfortable clothing, with an Iconic Costume (full plate armor is pretty recognizable)

Abilities: Martial Arts (in the vein of the Armored Combat League), Hammers (instead of Swords)

Backstory:

-How did you first gain your skills?

Practice and training. Katya had always been fascinated with the Golden Age heroes and wanted to emulate them. It wasn’t until she stumbled across the armor of the Golden Age hero known as the Grey Gallant that she found the means to fulfill her dream.

-When did you first put on your costume?

After repairing the armor (Grey Gallant had met a grizzly end) and painting it a bright emerald green, Katya started walking a beat in search of injustice.

-Who, outside the team, thinks you shouldn’t be a superhero?

Her grandmother would rather she focus on her schoolwork or other, local, means of helping the community (instead of playing at being a knight and causing more harm than good).

-Why do you try to be a hero?

For Katya, it’s fun first and consequences later. She also is in love with the idea of being a close-to-home hero, someone who spends their time helping the community thrive, instead of always focusing on world ending threats. Much like the Golden Age heroes she emulates, she thinks small picture, not large.

-Why do you care about the team?

“Together, we are strong.” It also helps that she mother hens the younger heroes. She is all heart.

Drives:

-Lead the team successfully into battle.

-Help a teammate when they need you most.

-Save a teammate’s life.

-Stop a fight with calm words.

Katya as a hero is very much inspired by Overwatch’s Reinhardt (but w/o the power armor and rocket hammer, natch) and my own love of my grandparents and the stories of their lives.

As a character, she is very much big hearted. A caring person who wants to help others as much as she can, mixed with a loud, boisterous personality.

Plus I liked the idea of a Modern hero who wasn’t inspired by Bronze or Silver -agers.

Here’s the Outsider from the Weekday Warriors group, current as of the official wind-down of play last month because real life and holidaze.

Random (so-called because even SHE didn’t know what the next gizmo pulled out of her bag of tricks would do) was not the most serious of the group, but she had some surprising depths. She was also, thanks to the impressive weapons suite on her Yacht, probably the single most destructive member of the party in a collateral sense, although our Legacy gave her a good run for the money.

If I had the time to do this game over again, I’d have emphasized her grease-monkey love affair with primitive Earth-tech a lot more than I was able to. This is an Imperial Princess who would rather be down in the motor pool with a spanner and some lug nuts.
