Noises in the Old Theatre

“The rumour is that, yesterday, most of the goblin bandits that camp in the abandoned theatre left. They intercepted a fine merchant convoy, and now they are in the city, buying provisions or getting drunk on stolen wine. It’s a perfect day for a small incursion into the goblin lair. In and out. Easy money.”

Of course, it won’t be as simple as that…

Noises in the Old Theatre is an adventure and quick-start ruleset for The Indie Hack (TIH), which is a minimalist fantasy roleplaying game that is played with pencils, paper, dice, and imagination.

It doesn’t use 10+, 7-9, 6- results on 2d6, but I think that’s still okay. Apocalypse World broadly inspires the dice mechanics and the approach to light-weight, deadly, story-focussed gaming. The hinted-at setting, game economy, and player-driven details should be familiar to players of Apocalypse World.

This is a good opportunity for people to try this hack of a hack for less than the price of The Indie Hack.

If you hate my face, and think the horse I rode in on is fat and/or ugly, just say so in the comments.

Eight-toes (bad frostbite, real bastard, thinks he’s clever, owns the penthouse)

Trope (doctor of sorts, likes ice wine “but I guess it’s all ice wine now! hyuck hyuck”)

Cannibal Jim (wild beard, angry, smells, and is good with electronics)

Fink (long black hair in a man-bun, angular features, MISFITS shirt, will lie about anything)

Shit-head (goofy-looking blond guy, scraggly hair, breathes through his mouth, red parka)

Dust (handsome, slight Spanish accent, elegant clothes, good with computers)

Parking (“tough old bat”, can get you almost anything, has never been seen eating)

Gen (platinum blonde, cute, Metallica shirt, good with people)

Fanta-Z (has the worst friends, loves innuendo, cuts all her coats to expose midriff)

Twice (i.e., to refer to his sexual inexperience, scrawny, bald, inferiority complex)

Trout (sniper/guard for the gang, tells horror stories, hates all children)

Sexy (a “plain jane” and hates it, would kill a kitten for a hot cup of coffee, one ear, will help anyone)

November (beautiful, short red hair, smokes, and has a lot of piercings)
