The way it worked in a game I ran was that when the Fae was in DS, if he could reword anything that anyone said into a promise, he could consider it one, and wreak (un)holy vengeance on them if he could construe it as broken. We tried to think of it in the most temper-tantrum-y childlike terms possible. It led to some serious stompin’ times.
In our case, we would make him write them out, though, so that everyone knew what they’d “promised” to 😉
Oh, and for getting out, I left that entirely in the Fae’s court. The first time he DS’d I said “And let me know when the scales are balanced. He played it the crap up, hard.
Yeah, that’s pretty much how it worked in my first game too.
